There is something about buffets that I have always just drooled over. They’re always so stately and practical all in one go. Some people call them sideboards but I’ve always just thought of them as buffets. There are SO many different styles out there but my all time favorites are usually dubbed “antiques” and they always have legs for days! I have two buffets myself that I’ve refinished and utilized here at Grandma’s house. Interestingly enough one of the buffets actually came from my other Grandma (Eleonora) and it has claw feet that make me swoon and a very unique mirror across the back! The other was a simpler piece my mother purchased when she was all of 19 years old when she moved out of the house (this house actually lol) for the first time. She considered it (and used it as) a dresser then but it is definitely a buffet, Joe helped me convert it into our master bathroom vanity. When it comes to buffet makeovers on Pinterest so much has been done with paint and glazing and amazing techniques that it is REALLY hard to choose just a few. But, here are my top six!
Over at The Painted Hinge they posted about this incredible buffet a while back and every time I come upon this before and after I always go back to look at the whole post again. It is absolutely breathtaking. Their paint technique choice brought out every little intricate detail and I just LOVE how they chose to keep the top solid wood!! (I loved that paint technique so much actually I tried myself on a couple sweet end tables this summer)
Blue. Need I say more? This color blue varies so beautifully from sky to robin’s egg to the aqua of the ocean I am really just in awe. Southern Revivals did just an incredible job giving this lady such a stunning blue dress, there really is no doubt that this is truly a lady! They also chose a light wood top (go check out the post for more looks at the incredible refinished top.)
A sucker for blue aren’t I? Honestly, I’m really just a sucker for buffet’s/sideboard’s with mirrors because: WOW. This piece became not just a stunner but a STATEMENT. Home Stories A to Z says, “I’m thrilled with how it turned it out!” and I most certainly would be too! You need to check out the post to hear about the incredible bargain she got on this CraigsList find and the tutorial on how she (step by step) made this old buffet into a gorgeous piece of furniture!
Surprised I chose such a drastic transformation for an old buffet? Don’t get me wrong, my heart aches just a little bit at the idea of someone cutting off the left half of this buffet but I just CANNOT argue with how beautifully they executed this deck cooler! Over at Better After the comment is “Her cooler is cooler than your cooler” And that is most certainly true, actually I think this might be the coolest cooler I have ever seen! Oh my gosh and look at those LEGS!!!
This is a before and after worth going and checking out and this is almost the exact buffet I’ve got my heart set on someday to put in my mom’s future master bedroom! Over at Leisure Living they truly saw a diamond in the rough with this old beauty as it was quite the beat up ugly duckling when they began. I love their choice of creamy color and dark hardware!
I know this is technically my third “blue” buffet on this list but you have to admit the three blue buffets here are MIGHTY different. This one created such a beautiful little princess with their color choices it is almost hard to believe! I love how sweet and light and elegant this turned out! You probably won’t be surprised to hear that this stunning lady’s buffet was done by the blog One Girl in Pink! Go check it out for closer up shots!
And here’s my big old buffet! I told you all about this when I posted the tutorial on how we converted it into our master bathroom vanity. Joe cut out the center for the sink while I cut a hole in the back and modified the top drawer. There are real wonderful things about this whole ensemble that Joe and I just love. There are also draw backs. What we love: The vessel sink is amazing – I will NEVER go back, I love our vessel sink more then I thought I could ever love a sink. The amount of storage including the two giant wicker baskets under the sink is absolutely outrageous and amazing. The drawbacks: this is a big buffet, it sure feels like we’re a mile from the mirror lol it makes it hard for Joe’s shaving routine and really anything that requires being close to a mirror, we fixed this by getting a hand mirror. The only other drawback was my own fault: I should have put the towel bar on the lower drawer because, as I worried would happen, we close the towel in the lower drawer all the time and it drives us crazy. In the end, we LOVE it and I think it’s so cool that it used to be my mom’s! You can see it in more of its glory in my post about our Master Bathroom.
As much as I love the buffet we’re using for our master bathroom vanity this is the single piece in the whole house that truly, still, stops my little heart. I received this old buffet from my Grandma Eleonora in her passing and I love how unique the mirror is (I’ve seen very few with mirrors of that size) and, of course, those legs and those amazing claw foot feet! We’re actually using this old buffet for our entertainment center! I know, weird, but it just worked out lovely under our flat screen tv (which we hung up) our remotes (including our wii motes) go in the old silver drawer which is still lined with old purple velvet! You can check out my post all about it here 🙂
Yup, I have a full on buffet/sideboard obsession!! I just can’t get over them and I really wish I had a bit more room in our house so I could squeeze in one… (maybe two…?) more!
