We’ve all said on at least one occasion or another, “It is amazing what paint can do!” Sometimes it seems almost to the point of miraculous actually. Many of the following kitchen transformations on this Inspiration Board are almost entirely due to a lot of work and a lot of paint. My fellow bloggers are nothing if not ingenuous and VERY hard working, make sure and click forward to see what they accomplished and how they did it along the way. You really do need to see every one of these transformation to believe it!
Over at wifeinprogress.com she starts off by mentioning that initially they did just paint out this kitchen and lived with it for quite awhile before taking the plunge to do something different. She writes, “We had no plans to completely re-do our kitchen, but thought it would be interesting to entertain a quote from a Home Depot representative to try to sell us on “refacing” our cabinets…” I’m a sucker for both white kitchens AND bead board so what they ended up choosing to refinish their cabinets with was right up my ally. They ended up with a kitchen FAR more expensive looking then it actually was!
This might be my favorite before 🙂 There wasn’t anything they could salvage from this ancient little kitchen. You HAVE to go see the stunning transformation over at chrislovesjulia.com. They chose modern gray cabinets, a classic subway tile all the way to the ceiling and a farm house sink and brass faucet that absolutely makes my heart go pitter patter. They basically (and astonishingly) kept the size of the old kitchen but when you see it you won’t believe how much BIGGER and LIGHTER the whole room feels!
Every time I see this before picture from dearlillieblog.blogspot.com it gives me the creeps lol! If there was one picture that totally captured “dated kitchen” this might just be the one! Dark wood everything and hospital green walls to top it off. This is a perfect example of what NOT to do to make a room feel bright and airy. What they did do though to transform this space into one that is welcoming and light-filled just blows me away! Keeping the dark beams and dark floors they took the rest of the space into grays and whites, still holding on to a warm and comfy looking space but opening it up in a truly beautiful way.
What a sad little before picture that is! Check this before and after out over justagirlandherblog.com, she writes, “I now get a big silly grin on my face every time I walk in the kitchen rather than cringing at the ugliness that was our old kitchen!” And every time I see the before and after here I would be grinning to! She chose a Marble Hexagon Backsplash that is absolutely dreamy. What is really impressive here is that they kept the floors AND the old foot print, otherwise I would have guessed it was a different kitchen in a different house.
If you’ve been checking our kitchen transformations online at all then you’ve probably seen this before and after from chatfieldcourt.com because it is a real beauty. By eliminating the tiny breakfast nook they took what was a small and oh-so-typical kitchen into a really luxurious and smart galley kitchen that any cook would love to work in. With lots of paint and some really smart open shelving I think they absolutely knocked this one out of the park.
This kitchen transformation from allthingswithpurpose.com is a spectacular example of what hard work and paint can do! With the removal of some cabinet doors, a few cabinets, a new little cabinet over the stove and A LOT of paint this dingy looking little kitchen turned into something that looks fresh, expensive and really just plain pretty. She even painted her counter tops to look like marble and it looks just awesome.
Here is another just awesome example of what paint can do coming fromhouseofgoldvb.com. They made a gorgeous choice in a dramatic gray/almost blue for their cabinets and a just beautiful counter top to go with it. She writes that it took them over 400 days to complete it and I really feel ya girl! After working on our house renovation for 15 months straight I know what kind of exhaustion she’s talking about!
And, last but not least, the one kitchen before and after that will probably be my favorite 🙂 My Mom’s kitchen! She and I spent nearly thirty hours painting every last nook and cranny of her dark kitchen and, six coats later (and so much tired) it was SO wroth it! Just the face lift alone on those cabinets transformed the look of her floor and her counter tops! Go check the whole post out here to see the after pics!
