Thinking about Christmas already!

I’ve been getting kinda urgent about Christmas gifts already and thought, even for me, it is a bit early to start panicking lol its not even Thanksgiving yet! Of course I am always one to get things done as early as possible (last minute things just don’t jive with me) I think what’s doing it actually is the fact that we already have snow on the ground. Is this going to be yet another post about my grumbling about our weather? Not entirely I promise!

The other morning we had a high of only 4 above zero! Good grief what is going on!? On the other hand two days later it was a high of over 40. I dunno, its not like it REALLY effects me but if you’ve been reading along with me at all since I started this blog then you know I am an above zero kind of gal and I would much prefer it be 80 degrees with sunshine. These days you’ve been seeing all of my posts about my deck coming out every Monday and I am staring longingly at the GREEN and the SUN and am really missing fall.

Two weeks ago, for no real reason whatsoever, my wonderful husband treated me to a room with a view (albeit a bleak and cold one), a bar and a hot tub right by the tv. We soaked for hours, drank a lot of wine and watched commercials. We haven’t had “real” tv in so long it was a treat! We also hit the local Antique Mall and I bought three rugs for a steal before we had to drag ourselves out of there. Could I just like take the whole store home with me?

Last weekend I took Joe to town with me to our little local health food store and proceeded to smell every essential oil that they sell. I wanted something manly! I started using frankincense upstairs in my little terracotta oil diffuser by my bed at night to be very surprised when my husband complained. I’ve seen frankincense used a lot in lotions etc not only for its health benefits but because its a great “manly” smell. My husband does not agree lol. So I dragged him with me because I have a whole list of gifts for men that I plan on making this year.

He ended up choosing sandalwood (broke the bank on that one lol) and cinnamon. I’m making a mechanics hand scrub for at least five male family members this year (recipe coming soon) as well as a hard core, deep penetrating hand salve (recipe coming later). I put the sandalwood in the scrub and the cinnamon in the hand salve. While we were in town Joe went with me to the dollar store to look for cute and inexpensive containers. I lucked out in both cases and we decided the cinnamon breath mints tins would be the cutest and most perfect way to give out the hand salve. Because it is so deep penetrating a lot goes a long way and it can also be used for chap stick and, on top of that, I was already going to be making it smell like cinnamon anyway so it worked out! Admittedly, I threw the breath mints away because they were “sugar free” and there wasn’t a single ingredient in them that is found in nature.

So I tackled the first of the homemade Christmas gifts I’m planning on making and feel better about Christmas already. I have all of the scrub made and, moving on, I have a batch of my body butter to make, a sugar scrub to make (wish me luck on that one, I’ve never made it before!) and I still need to make the salve as well. Sounds like a lovely afternoon to putter around my kitchen using essential oils and smelling like Heaven. I think I’ll need to make some of my homemade chicken noodle soup that day too.

Speaking of my kitchen… Oh the horror that is dishwashers.

I accidentally gave myself a four day weekend over veterans day. I hadn’t taken a day off just for me from my day job for nearly 6 months so I chose a random Monday in November and boom, four day weekend. And what does a girl like me do on her Monday off? Does she take a spa day? Does she pamper herself? Nope, our dishwasher quit working and I spent most of the day fixing it. Fun times. A part of me thought well, this is what I deserve after enjoying a hot tub and getaway for a night 😉
