In the last few decades, DIY has taken on a life of its own. All kinds of crafts and repairs are being made using a DIY approach. The advent of the digital age and platforms like YouTube have made DIY easier and accessible.

These days, DIY covers more than just crafts and simple repairs. Now, even things like selling a home, which was the reserve of real estate agents, can be done by homeowners. (Check out this blog post to see how it can be done.)

If you are scouring for DIY ideas to make your home look and feel better, this article was written for you.

Let’s delve right in, shall we?

Paint Your Home

While it may be tempting to hire a painter as soon as your walls begin to lose their shine, painting is one of many great DIY ideas where you can save money if you do it yourself. Painting is not as hard as it seems – especially if you do it with friends and family.

You can have a lot of fun as a family, and it can become an opportunity to bond. Start by deciding on the colors to use and choose the right tools, including brushes, rollers, sandpapers, drop cloths, etc. Read this article from Architectural Digest to learn how to paint like a DIY pro.

Sew Your Own Curtains

If you don’t have the luxury of buying new curtains or the ones you like are not in any shop, you’re in luck. There are DIY steps to create your own curtains and window treatment.

Get curtain-making tools like curtain fabrics, scissors, ruler, tape measure, sewing machine, thread, pins, and an iron. Start with this tutorial by Ella Hall on creating a simple panel-style professional-looking curtain with a rod pocket.

Restyle Your Shelves

Shelves are a standard feature of most homes.

Whether for purposes like storing books and other materials or for decorative purposes, shelves are a must-have for creating great DIY ideas. They help you keep your home more organized and beautiful. You can try different types of shelves, from hanging rope shelves, hexagon shelves, belted shelves, and corner shelves to floating shelves.

You can also repaint old shelves and add your own touch to them.

Create Your Own Paintings

Granted, you may not be Michelangelo or the next Da Vinci, but canvas art is not out of your reach. In fact, with some tutorials and inspiration, you can make simple paintings to add style and creativity to your home. And it is a lot easier on your pocket too.

From printing out texts to splashing paint on a canvas, there’s an almost dizzying variety of DIY ideas to create paintings. You can even use leaves and spray paint to make quick silhouettes, or you can use string or a hot glue gun to make a textured canvas and then add spray paint for effect.

Start Landscaping

One of the best ways to spruce up your home is through landscaping.

Whether it’s your front yard or backyard, landscaping can make your home attractive and appealing. Choose flowers that complement each other, and you can add stones and boulders for effect. You can even take the landscaping off the ground by using window boxes and planting flowers in them. Here are some landscaping ideas to try.
