Home security when you live out in the sticks like we do is a bit different then I think most people think about it when they consider how to make sure their home is safe. Around here we need to safe guard our homes from wild animals such as bear and even coyotes and cougers. The best home defense in our case is actually a dog! And though our senior little service dog Annie isn’t exactly a threat to anyone her big bark has scared off plenty of creatures that didn’t belong here.

Home security is a significant concern for every homeowner. Your home is your sanctuary, and keeping it secure from potential break-ins or burglaries is essential. There are 2.5 million home break-ins annually in the US, making home security a top priority for everyone.
With the rise of modern technology, there are now many ways to increase your home’s security and provide peace of mind to you and your family.
Shutting blinds and curtains at night when turning on your lights acts as a deterrent for burglars, as it indicates someone may be home. However, external window shutters can offer you added peace of mind, especially if you have more oversized windows that can become a target for thieves.
Security shutters are available in various materials and styles to fit your home aesthetic, so they don’t look out of place, from aluminum roller shutters to wooden plantation shutters or even PVC shutters. It’s also a good idea to install curtains throughout your home. Not only do they look great, but they also add a layer of protection and security.
Another critical step to increase your home security is to secure all doors with robust lock systems. Simply locking the doors can be your first line of defense against unwanted intruders.
However, ensuring the doors have strong locks that cannot be easily picked or broken is essential. Consider upgrading your door locks to a multi-point locking system which provides extra security as it locks the door at multiple points along the frame, making it much harder to force open. Don’t forget to check your garage door, too, and book a garage door repair if you find any vulnerabilities that can provide easy access.
When you think about home security, you should know that the main access point for many residential burglaries is via the windows.
While closed windows can offer some defense, having working and secure window locks can give you added protection. Avoid leaving keys in window locks and check if they are locked each night or when someone goes home.
Installing outdoor lighting in your front drive and garden is one of the most effective ways to increase your home security. Adequate outdoor lighting can deter potential intruders by making it difficult for them to enter your property unnoticed.
Motion-activated lighting is an excellent option that automatically turns on when someone approaches your home. This type of lighting ensures your property is well-lit when you return home after dark.
You can proactively keep your home and family safe by combining visual alarms with other security strategies. Coupled with a motion sensor or other security sensor, visual alarms can trigger a loud noise, flashing lights, or both, to alert you and your neighbors to any potential danger.
With more people becoming interested in smart home security, some systems even include the ability to remotely monitor and control your visual alarms via a smartphone or tablet app.
In conclusion, upgrading your home security system is a smart investment for your safety and protection. By implementing these measures, you can increase the safety and security of your home and family.
