A Pipe Rack I built for my grill that I still use today!

I really like it when I can do a throwback post and say its still with me and going strong to this day. At the time I added this rack to a buffet I built to set my little grill on. As planned I eventually got a full size grill and this buffet moved to right beside my back door to my kitchen. Its awesome to have right there. I’ve used it countless times over the years for food and drinks whenever I have people over. The fact I can just reach outside the kitchen door to set things on means I use it practically daily when the weather is nice.

Its also just a few steps from my grill so if I have several things I’ll be cooking they land right there first. The pipe rack I built for it is awesome for towels, spatulas, grill accessories etc. and is still going strong for me all these years later.

A tutorial on how to build a galvanized pipe rack for towels and utensils. I finished up my new grill station just this last weekend and a lot of the awesomeness of it comes from the project that was the easiest and took me the least amount of time!

My pipe rack! Check out the grill station by clicking here! First, you need to gather your tools/pipe pieces.

(ALL of these pipe pieces are 1/2″ size/diameter pipe – you can certainly buy smaller or bigger pipe depending on what you need the rack for)

• 1 pipe at 12″ long
• 2 pipes at 6″ long
• 2 pipe caps
• 2 pipe attachment ring thingies (I’m sure that’s the professional name)
• 2 pipe Ts

This project is the perfect example of my very favorite kind of project: Just gather your tools and assemble! (Really any kind of DIY project is just adult LEGOs isn’t it?) I grabbed my Dewalt impact driver and some leftover torque screws from my previous project.

A Note: if you haven’t purchased yourself an impact driver as opposed to a regular drill yet I strongly suggest you make the purchase entirely for yourself – you deserve it. You can buy one using that affiliate link for around $100 on Amazon but every great once in awhile Ace has an incredible deal on a two battery and Impact driver Dewalt combo that literally gives you two batteries for the price of just the impact driver (so don’t purchase online if you can help it) go check out your local hardware store etc.

So my “gathering of tools” means (for me anyway): a pack of cigarettes and lighter, a little radio for good tunes, a cold beer, all of the above listed pipe pieces, my impact driver, a tape measure and torque screws but it did NOT include the one thing I actually really needed: a pair of gloves. So it turns out that steel is sharp – who knew?!

Little itty bitty nasty skin biting/shredding bits of leftover steel, from when they cut out the threads, will draw your blood so quick and painlessly you won’t even believe it until it’s everywhere. 

There ended up a lot more wounds/blood then this picture gives credit to but at that point I didn’t want to touch my phone anymore to take more gruesome photos for your information, just don’t be an idiot like me – wear gloves!

Honestly I just spent the last ten minutes trying to type up step by step instructions but once you have these pipe pieces in your hand its so obvious and easy – you can’t screw this up!

lol – you just screw it all together! The caps go on the ends of each of the 6 inch pipes, then you screw them into the Ts, then the 12″ pipe goes between the Ts, then the little pieces of pipes go into the Ts and then on go the attachment ring thingies that I am too lazy to look up the official name for and, you’re done!

Attach wherever you need a tremendously solid rack! (It dawned on me that this would be darned cool as a kind of handle for something too.)

Come back next week when I get to show you guys what I did with a wedding present we received from my brother and sister-in-law. They gave us a beautiful piece of granite and I put it outside on my deck on an all new grill station I just finished!
