Summer is the perfect time to take advantage of the warm weather and spend quality time outdoors. But preparing your exterior space for summer can be a daunting task. To make it simpler;
Inspect outdoor furniture for any damage and make necessary repairs or replacements in time for summer. Wicker, wood and metal should all be given a quick wipe down with mild soap solution and soft cloth to remove dirt that has accumulated during the winter months. If there are cushions attached to your furniture, ensure they remain in good condition – wash them if necessary – to get ready for summer entertaining.
Power wash siding, decks, driveways, patios and walkways of your home using a power washer for quick freshening without having to scrub each surface individually. However, be aware that pressure washing may not be suitable for certain materials or surfaces so check with your local home improvement store if you have any queries.
Decks exposed to the elements can start looking worn out over time, so it’s essential that these surfaces are in excellent condition before summer arrives. If your deck has faded or stained paint, consider pressure washing first before applying an exterior stain or paint for a fresh new look. On wooden fences, check for peeling paint or damage before applying weatherproof sealer protection against external elements.
Maintaining your home’s exterior with gutter and downspout cleaning is essential if you want it looking its best during the summertime. Make sure any debris, leaves or accumulation has been cleared out from these components so water can freely flow away from your residence.
Maintaining trees and shrubs around your home’s perimeter will enhance its curb appeal. Be sure to trim away any overgrown branches so they don’t come into contact with roof, siding or other parts of the house; additionally, remove any dead branches which may have formed during winter months.
Brightening up your home’s exterior with vibrant potted plants near doorways or along walkways is a simple way to make it appear more inviting in the summer months. Consider adding annuals such as marigolds, petunias or impatiens for an instant splash of hue.
Outdoor lighting fixtures not only adds aesthetic value to your home, but they can also provide safety and security when entering or leaving at night. Consider adding motion-activated lights near doorways or solar powered walkway lights along walkways for added convenience.
Gardening in your yard during the summer months is an excellent way to add vibrant color and life. Start with easy-to-grow vegetables like cherry tomatoes, squash, peppers and cucumbers as your base plants, then layer in vibrant annuals like petunias, impatiens or marigolds between them for extra visual interest.
Examine any outdoor elements like sprinklers, hoses and pools to confirm they’re in working condition. Make any necessary repairs or replace worn-out parts before the summer months arrive so your equipment works optimally.
For the ultimate outdoor relaxation experience, why not install either a hot tub or spa on your deck or patio. Not only does it offer soothing therapeutic benefits, but it can create an inviting atmosphere for friends and family to gather during summer months. Be sure to consult with a local hot tub maintenance expert first, as there may be certain zoning laws in your area that must be observed.
