Choosing patio furniture is an expensive shopping trip almost regardless of material. Material choices also differ widely when it comes to what you WANT out of it. Is it about the furniture lasting or is it about comfort? We found out here (pretty obviously) that putting up our outdoor furniture for the winter months was a guarantee it would last A LOT longer.

I've been seeing bar top deck railings all over the internet the past year and it occurred to me that its definitely something we would get use out of!

What does one look for when selecting material for furniture? Apart from looks and functionality, it is crucial to ensure its durability and overall comfort and style. Durability is the most important factor for outdoor patio furniture as it will have to deal with different weather elements along with everyday life rigors such as spillages, kids, pets, and more.

Every homeowner must choose the best materials for their patio furniture to ensure its overall aesthetics and performance. Whether you are interested in wooden outdoor lounge chairs or a table with metal frames, you should focus on the pros and cons of each material. The right choice will not only impact the comfort and longevity but enhance the aesthetics of your outdoor space.

Look at some key considerations that can help steer you in the right direction when looking at patio furniture:

Consider the weather conditions in your area
Climate and weather conditions will play a key role in influencing your decision regarding the most suitable materials for your patio furniture. Those living in locales with heavy rainfall or extreme heat will need materials that can endure these extreme weather conditions.

  • Tip: Aluminum, teak, and all-weather wicker materials can withstand harsh weather

 The durability and longevity
One would, of course, want their patio furniture to last for a long time without losing their structural integrity and looks. Enjoying your patio furniture for longer terms gives one immense satisfaction. However, that means looking at different options and materials well known for their sturdiness, durability, and longevity.

  • Tip: Teak, cedar wood, aluminum, and stainless steel are popular because of their resistant properties.

 Investing time in maintenance
No matter what quality furniture you buy for your patio,  you will need to take time for regular care and maintenance of the furniture. Some materials will require more time and effort to maintain their appearance. Those who have little time for regular upkeep of their patio furniture must look for low-maintenance materials.

  • Tip: Shop for aluminum or plastic furniture that requires minimal upkeep and avoid high-maintenance materials like wood and wrought iron.

The comfort and style
Comfort and aesthetics of patio furniture are certainly a priority when choosing patio furniture. Without the right style and the desired level of comfort, even the best quality furniture on your patio will not be able to retain its charm. The right level of comfort, style, and aesthetics is sure to complement your outdoor space and make it more inviting and welcoming for everyone.

  • Tip: Select materials with padding for comfortable seating and a cozy but modern and sleek appeal.

Your budget
The budget is a major factor that can impact the final decision-making. Keep in mind that high-quality materials with the required properties will tend to be more expensive when compared to lower-grade metals. However, there is no sense in investing in materials that are sure to lose their integrity, looks, and functionality with time. Choosing lower-quality material for patio furniture will turn out to be expensive in the long run.

  • Tip: Consider your budget and strike the right balance when shopping for patio furniture.
