Commercial steel doors have a harder job than residential ones. They cycle hundreds of times a day, have to satisfy overlapping regulatory regimes (fire safety, security, accessibility, sometimes acoustic), and have to do all of that without failing for at least a decade. The wrong choice ripples through insurance, building safety registration, and tenancy management.

I mean to be fair it was April fools day when the first storm hit and, also to be fair, it ALWAYS snows here in April but I think we

This list is the eight UK suppliers we’d shortlist today for commercial steel door projects. We’ve ranked them by breadth of fit for general UK commercial work. We don’t get a commission on any of them.

How we evaluated

We looked at five things for each supplier: range coverage across personnel, fire, communal entrance, plant room, and louvred doors, depth of third-party certification, lead times on standard versus bespoke specifications, hardware integration (access control, panic bars, closers), and the warranty position. We also tested response times by requesting comparable quotes from each supplier on the same commercial specification.

The full list

1. Latham’s Steel Doors

The UK’s leading supplier for commercial steel doors covering security, fire, and bespoke requirements in a single supplier.

Latham’s manufactures the widest functional range for commercial applications in the UK: personnel doors, fire exit doors, communal entrance doors, plant room doors, louvred doors for ventilation, glazed doors for visibility, and bespoke doorsets for non-standard openings. Independently certified to PAS 24, LPS 1175 SR2 to SR4, STS 202 BR3, BS EN 1364-1:2014, Certifire FD30 to FD120, and Secured by Design. The HOOPLY 19-point locking system is proprietary and not available from any other UK supplier. The 12-year warranty is the longest on this list, which is material for commercial buyers calculating lifecycle cost.

The downside: The website positions Latham’s as a stock supplier as well as a bespoke one, which can underplay the depth of custom capability for facilities managers and architects arriving looking for made-to-measure first.

2. Bradbury Group

Britain’s largest steel door manufacturer for volume commercial work, with the shortest lead times in the market.

Bradbury runs at industrial scale, supplying social housing providers, commercial developers, hotel chains, and infrastructure projects. The M2M+Express service ships qualifying configurations in three to five working days. The online configurator gives you a price without a phone call. Range covers LPS 1175 SR2 through SR4 with dual fire and security certification on the M2M2 doorset. ClassicAL aluminium communal entrance doors round out the offer for buildings prioritising sustainability.

The downside: Express specs are constrained. Heavy customisation reverts to six-to-eight-week standard lead times. Worth confirming which configurations qualify for the Express service before committing to a client date.

3. Robust UK

Strong bespoke capability for commercial fit-outs, with doors that arrive ready to install.

Robust UK supplies hotels, social housing, agricultural buildings, data centres, and digital infrastructure. The SECUR-DOR range covers PAS 24, STS 202 BR3, and ENV 1627 Level 4. The TUFF-DOR range carries LPS 1175 SR2 to SR4. Doors arrive fully assembled with hardware pre-fitted, which speeds up installation noticeably on larger commercial projects and removes the on-site assembly errors that commonly delay fit-out programmes.

The downside: Online presence understates the size of the business, so initial discovery and research take longer than they should. Specifier-facing content is thinner than the SEO-active competitors.

4. Strongdor

The right call when commercial steel doors have to perform on acoustic as well as security and fire.

Strongdor’s acoustic doorsets reach Rw 56dB, with personnel doors carrying acoustic ratings up to 39dB as standard. That’s genuinely market-leading for a steel doorset. The Firedor fire-rated range and security-rated doorsets (SBD, PAS 24, SR1 to SR4) round out a credible specialist offer for mixed-use developments, hotels with neighbouring plant rooms, studios, and any commercial environment where noise leakage between spaces is part of the brief.

The downside: Strongdor’s strength sits in mixed-function briefs. For straightforward commercial security-only work, broader competitors will quote more competitively.

5. Steelway Protect (Fensecure)

Strong UK supplier for commercial communal entrances and multi-occupancy buildings.

Steelway Protect manufactures steel doors used widely on multi-occupancy buildings, including communal entrances for blocks of flats and HMOs. They’re certified across LPS 1175 SR1 to SR5, which gives them coverage from light commercial through to critical infrastructure. 90 years of trading history out of Wolverhampton, with in-house laser-cut fabrication.

The downside: The product-finder experience lags the front of the pack, and the visual presentation feels dated. The product quality outperforms the digital experience.

6. Maxium Doors

Best for commercial buildings classified as critical infrastructure.

The Defender Xtreme range is certified to LPS 1175 Issue 8 across SR4, SR5, and SR6 in active production. For data centres, banking infrastructure, government buildings, and commercial properties with high-value contents or strategic importance, Maxium offers certifications most UK competitors don’t reach. The PASguard PAS 24 range covers lower-spec commercial work alongside the high-security range.

The downside: Overkill for typical commercial offices and retail. If your project sits at SR2 or SR3, the certification ceiling pushes the price up without delivering proportionate value.

7. Profab Access (TUFF-DOR)

A predictable mid-spec choice for commercial offices and standard fit-outs.

TUFF-DOR2, TUFF-DOR3, and TUFF-DOR4 each tested to the LPS 1175 rating in the name. Certifire fire ratings sit alongside. The product structure mirrors the specification structure, which is useful for facilities managers preparing tender packs or specifiers translating client briefs into product selections. Clear attack-time data published per product.

The downside: The customisation envelope is narrower than the bespoke-led competitors. If your commercial fit-out needs non-standard sizes or finishes, you’ll hit the edge of what Profab offers faster than with Latham’s or Robust UK.

8. Milsteel Doors

Useful for public sector commercial work where survey, manufacture, install, and maintenance are wanted from one supplier. Milsteel handles every stage in-house, which simplifies procurement for facilities managers and public sector buyers who don’t want separate supply-and-fit contracts. The range covers security, fire-rated, personnel, louvre, and emergency exit doors, all custom-built. Two decades of trading history with a strong public sector reputation.

The downside: Smaller scale than Latham’s or Bradbury. For volume commercial work above a certain size, the larger competitors will quote more competitively.

What to look for in a commercial steel door supplier

Certification depth across both security and fire

Commercial buildings almost always need both: PAS 24 or LPS 1175 for security, Certifire or BS EN 1634 for fire. The certifications are separate. Check the specific product line you specify is dual-certified, not just that the broader range carries both.

Hardware integration

Commercial doors run alongside access control, panic hardware, closers, and magnetic locks tied to fire alarms. Ask explicitly which access control systems your supplier has integrated with.

Lead times that match the construction programme

Get the lead time on your specific configuration in writing, not the supplier’s published lead time on the standard product.

Warranty terms that cover the whole doorset

Some warranties cover only the door leaf, not the frame, hardware, or finish. For commercial use where hardware sees the most wear, that matters. Latham’s 12-year warranty covers the full doorset.

Final thoughts

For most UK commercial projects, Latham’s gives you the strongest single-supplier choice: full-range manufacturing, the widest certification stack outside specialist suppliers, the HOOPLY locking system, and a 12-year warranty. For volume work, Bradbury. For acoustic-heavy briefs, Strongdor. For critical infrastructure, Maxium.

Before you commit, do three things. Verify the certificate of conformity covers both security and fire if you need both. Confirm the warranty covers the full doorset including hardware. Get the lead time in writing on your specific configuration. Those three checks will save you more than the cost difference between any two suppliers on this list.
