There are many lovely and simple ways to brighten a home. Grandma’s house doesn’t get much sun. Its a blessing in the summers as I’ve never needed air conditioning but it does mean I have had to get creative to brighten it up a bit and it also means I only have so many decent hours to photograph it in a day lol I love my home but I do wish I got more sun though I would never give up all of my beautiful pine trees. Painting out all of my trim and ceilings in bright white has helped tremendously in giving my home a bright and light feeling.

Brightening up your home can turn dark, dingy spaces into something delightful. Whether you’re revamping a bedroom, kitchen, playroom or living area, check out these sure-fire ways to illuminate your home…
Make the most of natural light
Natural light is the ultimate way to brighten any room, so be sure to maximize its potential. When you’re choosing window dressings, select blinds, curtains or shutters which allow you to let the light in while retaining your privacy.
With specialist window treatments, you can protect your family from harmful UVA and UVB rays, while still enjoying natural sunlight in your home.
Accessorize with mirrors
Mirrors are a great way to brighten any space because they reflect the light that’s already there. With endless options to choose from, mirrors work with any style or interior design choice too. From wood framed rustic glass to an industrial themed minimalist design, you can enhance your decor and brighten up a room with mirrors.
If you don’t want to catch a glimpse of reflection everywhere you turn, use mirrored accessories to add brightness instead. The light-reflecting properties of mirrored vases and photo frames will brighten a room and ensure you have a wide selection of accessories to enjoy.
Add a coat of paint
Repainting a room will automatically illuminate a room, particularly if you’re going from a dark color to a lighter shade. However, even if your room is already painted in a neutral hue, repainting it can add brightness.
If you don’t have the time or the skills to do it yourself, there’s no need to panic. Find the best general contractor you can, and you’ll have your rooms repainting to perfection in no time. With warm tones, light-reflecting properties, and VOC-paint, brightening a room couldn’t be easier.
Choose white furniture
Heavy, dark furniture can make a room feel drab, particularly in smaller spaces. Instead of choosing a traditional dark wood theme, opt for something lighter instead. White furniture is timeless and can make any room feel instantly brighter.
From coffee tables to bedside cabinets and bedframes to wardrobes; white furniture works anywhere. If you’re worried that white furniture will feel too clinical, don’t be. You can enhance your room with pops of color or add neutral accessories for a pared-down feel. With white furniture, however, the ambiance of the room will be lifted, and brightness will abound.
Change your lightbulbs
Today’s lightbulbs give you complete control over the lighting in your home. From cool, bright lights to warm tones and LED bulbs to recessed lighting; you can make any room as bright as you like. You can replace existing fixtures and fitting to maximize the effect or simply switch your bulbs for a simple and straightforward way to brighten your home.
Illuminate unused space
As well as increasing the lightness of well-used spaces, such as kitchen and living areas, don’t forget lower traffic areas. By increasing the brightness in hallways and corridors, you can ensure every aspect of your home has a bright, sunny and welcoming feel.
