Cutting Down and Painting a Stool to fit a small Desk

I’m not sure why or when I ordered this little stool off of Amazon but its been floating around my house for years. As stools go its pretty basic and I’m not real fond of the “natural” wood color its trying to pull off. Its never really had a home but when I put my desk in my new guest bedroom it needed a stool. Unfortunately though it was a few inches too high. Fortunately though I know how to cut things.

Its not super too high, its just high enough to make you bend over and be uncomfortable if you ever wanted to actually sit and work at this desk.

So I’m just going to cut the legs off as low as I can with my jigsaw. (Don’t judge it was super cold outside when I cut it down lol the cuts are not very straight!)

On the other side of the bed I’m using another random stool that’s been floating around here for years as an end table. Yes, chairs, stools, anything with a flat surface works just fine as a table!

That stool conveniently has a large flat top so there is plenty of surface to set a phone, glass of water etc. And I paired it with a floor lamp so as to leave all the surface empty for anyone who might be staying with me.

That stool has a natural top and painted white legs.

So it seemed pretty obvious, once I got this stool cut down, to paint its legs white as well. Unfortunately when I was in the “go go go” phase of completing my guest bedroom it was entirely winter here in northern Minnesota. Could I have waited until now, in June, to do this? Of course I could have!

But NOOOOO, I was so excited to finish my guest bedroom I just had to get it done. So I spray painted it very very carefully in my entryway and then moved it oh so carefully to sit in front of my pellet stove to dry.

You can tell I don’t do “matchy matchy” around here but these two are so different from each other I think tying them together with a paint job made the whole room feel a little more cohesive. (I know I’m the only one that will ever notice…)

I think it turned out super cute!

Last step was just adding little felt stickers to the bottom of each foot. I put these things on everything and not just because I have all hardwood floors throughout my house but because it takes out any wobble that furniture might have too. That one leg I cut poorly at a bad angle? Fixed with just another felt sticker!

The height worked out better for the desk and I’m liking it a lot more with the paint job as well. Also glad to finally have a home that makes sense for this random little stool.
