During the summer months, (and for some lucky folks, all year-round) the pool is the center of relaxation and fun.

Therefore, it’s important that you focus on decorating it in such a way that makes it a place where people feel like they can chill out and enjoy themselves.

Installing the pool is really just the beginning of turning your backyard into a comfortable oasis.

Read on to learn the top five tips for decorating your pool area.

1. Add Lots of Greenery

Did you know that the color green promotes the feeling of relaxation?

No matter how much space you have or what your budget is, adding some greenery around your pool is something everyone can and should do.

Add some hedges, at least one large tree, and if space, a nice flower garden. You really can’t go overboard with adding greenery to your pool area. And, you can always hire a gardener to maintain it if you don’t feel like you’ll have the time.

Whether you’ve gone with a simple and cheap pool installation or a luxury pool installation, the right greenery can take your space from feeling like a backyard pool to feeling like a tropical oasis.

2. Install a Pergola

Installing a pergola near your pool is the perfect way to give your pool area a nice cozy feeling.

Below the pergola, you should definitely add in some sofas and chairs where people can relax, have a drink, or read a book.

Plus, pergolas are a great way to add some much needed shade to the backyard. A pergola is the perfect way to make sure you’ve created a space for fun in the sun and fun in the shade.

3. Light It Up

Likely, there are going to be days when you hang out by the pool from sunup to sundown.

On these days, you want to make sure you have proper lighting installed so the night doesn’t have to end early.

While there are all sorts of lights you can choose from, lantern lights are one of the best options to make your space feel more relaxing.

If you really want to kick it up a notch and make your pool feel like a world-class hang out, add gas lanterns. Gas lanterns are what many world class resorts use to light up their pools at night.

4. Add a Spa

While this one’s a bit more of a splurge, adding a spa near your pool can really take your space to the next level.

Plus, adding a spa is more about the feeling it evokes, so don’t feel like you have to go all out in the beginning and add in every detail of a professional spa.

Consider adding a hot tub with a nice seating area next to eat, and decorate the area with some scented candles and paper lanterns.

5. Use Decorative Stones

Some decorative stones can really go a long way when it comes to pool decor.

Many people choose to sprinkle decorative stones right along the edge of the pool. You also may want to consider adding decorative stones to your green spaces.

Decorative stones can help give your space a real Zen feeling.
