5 Bedroom Decoration Tips to Consider. As far as decoration goes I think we primarily focus our time and energy on the more “public” spaces of our homes and tend to neglect those often not seen by others. Such as, our bedrooms. But neglecting our bedrooms I think its a huge mistake for our personal health and happiness. The current ongoing project here is our own master suite and I am just so thrilled we finally had to time to tackle it and make it our own safe haven this winter!

The bedroom is more than a place to sleep; it is your personal sanctuary or getaway, a place you can relax your mind, so it should be designed with comfort and functionality in mind. Read on for five tips for decorating your bedroom to create your dream space.

1.   Pick the right furniture

When buying furniture for your bedroom, be sure to keep your budget, taste and preference, and the room’s size in mind. Consider drawing up a floorplan of your room, then make a list of the furniture you want to include. The bed is likely to be your bedroom’s focal point, so ensure that its shape, size, and visual weight complement the space. You could also add a bedroom chair or hanging chair for small bedrooms, coffee table, nightstand, or bedside tables. Be sure to avoid extraneous furniture that limits your ability to move.

2.   Add texture with wall paneling

If you are not looking to paint your bedroom’s walls or add wallpaper, you could consider installing wall paneling. Wall paneling helps you introduce texture and warmth to your bedroom design. Check out DoorsPlus.com.au for customizable wainscoting to add depth and character to your bedroom walls.

3.   Add plenty of storage

Be sure to add enough storage space to your bedroom to keep clutter out of sight. It helps to give the bedroom a serene feeling, making it appear bigger and calm.

  • Install a headboard with sliding panels and built-in shelves to store easy-to-reach accessories and books
  • Add a storage trunk at the foot of your bed to keep extra pillows, blankets and sheets
  • Purchase a spacious bedside table fitted with doors and drawers to keep reading glasses, lotion, and books within reach
  • Add a custom-designed organization unit to maximize the use of your closet space
  • Invest in shallow boxes to store valuable items, then place them underneath your bed

4.   Pick subtle colors

A bedroom should give off a restful, soothing, and relaxing vibe, and you can achieve this by opting for a delicate color scheme. You could pick light color palettes such as lavender, green, and blue to create a calm and serene feel or go for neutral colors like beige and cream. To develop a cozy and comfortable mood, you could opt for rich-jewel color tones like deep pomegranate, toasty brown, or topaz.

You could also add a pop of your favorite color to make the room more attractive.  Consider adding wallpaper on the walls or ceiling, bold throw pillows, a bedspread, a comforter, or a duvet.

5.   Add different lighting options

You do not have to rely on a table lamp or overhead lights to illuminate your bedroom. Instead, consider introducing several lighting options (layering), which you could toggle on and off for maximum cohesion and functionality. Consider investing in bedside lamps, reading lights, pendant lights, built-in natural lights, floor lamps, sconces, and dimmers.

Endnote

The bedroom is one of the most important rooms in your house. It is where you start and end your day. Implement the above strategies to transform your bedroom into a retreat.
