OMG you guys I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it here yet but I am SO excited to redesign my living room this fall! I plan on painting it out and redoing the floors (like I did in my entryway because the smoke damage is bad in here too) I also plan on painting the ugly rock on the chimney. Its really one of the last big jobs to take care of the smoke damage and really get my home sparkling again! I also even plan on (drum roll please) a new couch! It seems kinda silly but I’ve never picked out a new couch by myself before and I’m really excited!

Whether you’ve lived in your home for a matter of months or several years, there comes a time when it’s time for a revamp. If your living room is looking a little dated and run down, there are various things that you can do to give it a new lease of life.

If you’re on a tight budget, fear not! Here are some DIY tips to help create a living room that’s fresh, comfortable and easy on the wallet.

Take Stock

Before you begin your DIY transformation, it’s important that you take a step back and draw up a plan of what you want to achieve. Your living room is the one area in the home that will house you, your family, and your guests, so taking measurements can help you figure out what sort of furniture can fit where, as well as other ways on how you can make space.

Yu should also factor in how much light gets into your home. If you want your living room to look inviting and spacious, having as much natural light as possible is key.

Colour Palette

If your walls have seen better days, it may be time to add a lick of paint to your living room. However, the type of colour you choose shouldn’t be done on a whim. To set the right tone for your living room, you should factor in what colour your furniture is so it can all fit well together.

For example, if you want your living room to look striking from the get-go, you should stick to vibrant colours such as red, yellow, and oranges. On the other hand, if you want your living room to be more calming and relaxing, opt for light blues and cream colours.

Know Your Style

Make sure to spend some time browsing through magazines and blogs to pinpoint your ideal style. A great website to use is Pinterest which can bring you a range of new ideas and thoughts that could look perfect for your living room. Once you’ve decided what sort of style you like, you can then move on to picking the right furniture.

Furniture

While some may like the idea of ‘out with the old, in with the new’, there are plenty of great DIY tools that you can use to transform your existing furniture into something fresh and modern.

Whether it be polishing off a cabinet, or adding some paint to furniture, there are all sorts of thing that you can do to add your own personal spin and for a fraction of the price. However, if you’re dead set on getting new furniture, you should be aware of any measurements before you buy, ensuring that it all can fit in your living room without any problems.

Add Some Art

If your walls are looking a little bare, why not add some art to complete your living room? While this doesn’t mean you have to fill every possible inch of the wall, adding a piece of art or two can be a great decorative addition.

There are other things that you can put on your wall too, like an extra large wall clock. However you go about it, you are sure to impress your guests.

It’s likely that your living room is one of the most used areas in the home, therefore, having a room that’s cosy, comfortable and pleasing on the eye can allow you to relax and unwind after a busy day.

Whether it be adding a lick of paint, adding or moving furniture around, or bringing some light in, make sure to take all the tips listed onboard to transform your living room into something magical.
