New Entryway Design… and some thoughts on rugs

A new design for our entryway. So I did a rug count in the house a while back and ended up feeling quite annoyed with myself actually. How many rugs does a 1,500 square foot main floor actually need? Apparently it was 19?! Now that was just seem borderline silly lol. To be fair most of them were the rag rugs that I love and a few came from my Grandma so I loved those even more. However, the majority of them had also seen better days. I started removing rugs or replacing them with more toned down and better alternatives. The entryway redesign here was my first opportunity to do just that!

In the before pictures you can see how we had the entryway partitioned off before to create two spaces, a dining room and an entryway / office combo.

We did this by using an old dresser I refinished years ago and placing my desk space behind it.

It worked just fine for years and you can see the old entry reveal here and more about my little office space here.

With my working from home more though and also playing Fortnite with my nieces and nephews it was becoming more and more frustrating for me not to have a more dedicated space.

Actually it wasn’t “dedicated space” I really needed but actually just a lot MORE space.

The little kitchen table I had been using as a desk was sorely underqualified for the job and the antique banker’s chair was absolutely destroying my back no matter how much padding I put on it.

(Both are totally loved and remain in this space.)

So, if you’ve been following along, you already know I decided to move my office into our workshop.

While making that transition I also moved our entryway around and it made a huge difference in this space.

SO MUCH MORE ROOM!

I moved the bench and dresser to the East wall and the kitchen table became my plant stand on the West wall accompanied by the banker’s chair.

(The old plant table moved to the workshop.)

With that done the rug situation became even more obvious because what we had before was tolerable but now with the redesign they barely worked at all.

I removed the four that were here and replaced them with two.

The big round rug I absolutely love and I got a great deal on it here.

The other rug sits in front of the door and is otherwise unnoticeable.

I loved how the bench now had a wall behind it so I could add pillows and make it a lot more comfortable for us.

As for the rug situation in the rest of the house I am addressing it as we speak. I’ve got the living room down from three to one and the kitchen lost one rug (a big one) but gained two little ones that are also as unnoticeable as the front door mat.

The workshop office went from four rugs down to two and I feel better about the whole situation lol.

Getting the office out of here not only made this space a lot bigger but I feel like it makes more sense.

We have a dedicated entryway now!
