How To Furnish A Large Bedroom

We don’t have a large bedroom though it is plenty big for three dressers two end tables and a king size bed! I have, in the past though, had a very large bedroom for several years and no matter how many times I moved things around in that space it never felt cozy no matter what I did! I know a lot more now than I did then on how to create coziness in large rooms and most of my experiences are listed below in this great article. Looking back on it I think I may have built myself a canopy bed so I could have used the canopies for fabric “walls” to help break the space up…

The internet is full of good advice on how to make the best use of a small space. Ingenious storage hacks and optical illusion decorating and use of mirrors. If you’re lucky enough to have a lot of space, it isn’t always as easy as you might think to decorate and furnish. If you aren’t careful, you can unbalance the space and make it look out of proportion. 

Buy a large bed

Gone are the days of the small double bed or compromising on bedside tables so that you can fit a double bed in. 

Now that you have a large bedroom its the time to buy that giant, luxurious bed you’ve always wanted. Even more important is your mattress. Choose wisely and weigh up the pros and cons of a king size vs queen size mattress for your new bed.  

If the room is large enough, you don’t even have to have the headboard against a wall, which is often a difficult thing for people to wrap their heads around.

Buy larger furniture

When confronted with all this space, it’s easy to think that it’s the perfect opportunity to cram as much furniture as possible in an effort to make it cozier and utilize the space. 

Look for furniture that is bigger in scale. Rather than putting two sets of drawers in, go for one, large set. It will stop the room from looking cluttered and badly designed. 

Find Ways To Make It Cozy

Some people don’t like to sleep in a large, spacious room. It can make them feel uncomfortable. There are many ways to bring the cozy feel back through the clever use of furniture. Rather than having all furniture up against walls, try using it to section off the room. This can be done with a room divider screen, a chaise longue, or a freestanding dressing table. 

Create zones 

If you’re decorating a room so large, it’s difficult to pull together a coherent style, then start using zones. Each can have its own feel while still fitting in with the aesthetic of the room. For example, you could have a lounge area with sofas and chairs, or a reading corner with a bookcase, side table, and comfortable chair. 

Use color wisely

When you’re decorating a small room, many designers recommend using light, neutral colors on the walls to make space look bigger. By that logic, when you have a large room, you should be able to let loose with the color palette. It’s not always that simple though. Painting bright color in a huge space can look overpowering, and detract from the aesthetic you’re going to. 

Conclusion

Figuring out how to decorate a large bedroom is a nice problem to have. But it still isn’t easy and needs careful planning. You don’t want to spoil the space you’ve been given by simply filling it up to the brim with furniture and other items. 

Take the time to think about the scale and flow of the room and how you can best make use of the space.
