Is Your Garden Ready For Winter? Well up here in northern MN its too late in the year to worry about getting our gardens ready for winter lol Winter is here! So, hopefully, we got all we needed done before the weather turned. I certainly had some chores to deal with but, mostly, I did get them all done. I got all our outdoor furniture put up, did a little garden cleaning and prepped our deck so it can be easily shoveled off. I was thinking I would try to get an overhang built off of the garage above the side door but that just may or may not happen until next year!

There’s no doubt that the weather has turned, the temperature has fallen, and that winter is well and truly upon us. There are a whole lot of ways that your life changes during the winter, from keeping the heating on all day to really starting to notice those breezy windows.
However, one thing that a lot of people forget when it comes to the colder, wetter months, is the state of their garden. You’re often not able to take the best possible care of your garden during the winter and that can often lead to problems down the line. However, that doesn’t need to be the case. Here are some ways that you can get your garden ready for winter and ensure that it’s ready for you come spring.
Deal with debris
There are few things more depressing than looking out at your garden and seeing a huge amount of debris and junk cluttering it up. This is even worse during the winter months when things end up getting damp and soggy. It can make your garden a place you don’t even want to think about. By clearing away the debris in your garden before the cold snap really hits, you can still enjoy your garden on those days when it’s actually warm enough to go outside for a moment.
Protect your fences
The fences around your garden are obviously important for a number of reasons. They help to offer you privacy when you’re in the garden as well as allowing you to frame the space in the most positive way possible. Of course, this is only the case if your fences are still standing and there are few things that can do damage to your fences faster than the wet and the cold. That’s why it’s so important to invest in something like Fence Guard Stain Concentrate. Fence stain allows you to protect it from the elements all winter long and leave it looking good as new no matter what.
Get pruning
After you’ve finished sweeping up all the leaves, it can often feel as though the trees in your garden look rather sad with such bare branches. Well, this is actually the perfect opportunity for some well needed pruning. Overgrown trees can cause all kinds of issues like disturbing your view, damaging your home, and even encroaching on your neighbours. By taking this chance to prune the branches you keep them under control and you allow for them to return healthier and happier when spring comes around.
It’s often easy to just ignore your garden during the winter months because it’s not only harder to deal with certain issues that crop up, but it’s also a whole lot less pleasant to be out in the cold trying to deal with weeds than gardening on a summer’s day. However, by making sure that you have the right preparations in place, you can be sure that your garden needs the minimum amount of attention so that you can enjoy cosying up under the blanket all winter.
