One of my all time favorite recipes (and one I use daily) is my homemade body butter. It whips up with only TWO ingredients in just a couple of minutes! What is technically happening here is an emulsion so it needs a fat and a liquid just like a salad dressing. This does work using water and coconut oil but I always choose to use almond or castor oil instead of water for an even more luxurious butter.

Every year we do stockings at my day job so, with a complete staff of ladies, my body butter recipe seemed like the perfect idea! First I ran to the Dollar store for some lovely little jars.

Even though this was Xmas I opted out of making a “Christmas smelling” butter. (Last year I made a lovely clove and cinnamon foot soak for everyone!) Instead I went for something light and lovely. My combination of essential oils turned out to be Lavender, Jasmine, Sweet Orange and Grapefruit.

I added a little here and there until I was happy with the scent. Jasmine can get a bit harsh depending on the brand so I took it easy on that one.

The trick in making this light and fluffy butter is to slowly add in the water (or almond or castor oil) as you beat the coconut oil. Clearly my house was pretty cool at the time because my coconut oil was a solid! This recipe will still whip up beautifully though even if it is warm enough to soften your coconut oil.

A blender, a stand mixer or a hand mixer will work just fine here! (Though a blender would probably be the easiest.)

I throw a towel over my stand mixer and just slowly add in my castor oil and essential oils as I whip it all up together. It becomes a lovely gift and a perfect after shower butter for legs and feet!
