Many of you know that I spend a good amount of my online time over at Hometalk. They’re so great to bloggers like me and I am endlessly inspired by what is submitted there! You guys also know that I am one unconventional kind of gal and, honestly, it’s gotten so bad that the idea of buying flooring out of a box at Home Depot kind of makes me shudder. Years ago (like over a decade) I was shut down in my suggestion of using plywood (cut into strips) to make inexpensive hardwood flooring ourselves – I’ll never get over paying an arm and a leg for carpet instead because my idea was just too weird. Well, I’m pretty stoked to see that I am not the only unconventional person out there and it is official: It does NOT need to come out of a box (or from Home depot) to make a gorgeous floor and you can absolutely do it yourself!

The first time I saw this floor I had to pick my jaw up off of my desk. Seriously, I still cannot believe that this was done with just paint! Good grief, I don’t know if I could pull this off but, seriously, how gorgeous is that?! Click here to see how she did it!

Isn’t this just the coziest and most darling floor for a porch!? I can see curling up here on a fall day and just gazing at the floor with so much pride. I don’t know if I would have the patience to get this done but WOW am I impressed! Go check out the post for me details!

Now that is my kind of floor! Oh my goodness the depth and the layers of color and look that they achieved here with pallets! I tackled my own pallet project this last month in my basement bathroom and was absolutely inspired by bloggers before me who did incredible things like this – go see all about it!

Yup, that is exactly what you think it is and I am still totally stunned by this one. Bottle caps!? On a floor!? Hell yes! I’m going to start collecting bottle caps asap and I am definitely going to do this somewhere in my basement. Absolutely incredible – go see some close up pics!

The fact that this remains my all time most popular post (by a HUGE margin) is just testament to how many folks are out there looking for an unconventional, inexpensive floor that you can do yourselves. This also remains one of my favorite projects and I literally walk on it and admire it every single day! Click here to see how we did it!

Great ideas! I was wondering- does Hometalk pay bloggers to submit their ideas, or? I’ve never made any money off my blog but would like to… Thanks!

Hey Nancy! No, Hometalk does not pay bloggers but the incredible amount of traffic they’ve generated for me has been incredibly valuable to my blog. Almost every time I’ve had a post go viral (over 8 thousands hits in one day) it was because Hometalk shared it in their newsletter or somewhere etc. The income I’ve made so far has all been through Amazon Affiliates, Media.net and Google Adsense. What’s great about that is that it is strictly due to traffic and I’ve only had to put their ads on my site and forget about them.

I saw the painted floor a year or so ago on hometalk and have been looking for it all this year. So i was thrilled to see it again in your post, however when i clicked on the link it said it had expired. Have you got any more information about how she did it, or how i could find the link? I think it was Unicorn Spit, right? Do you think i could get a reprint of the post if i wrote them and asked?
Thanks for your courage to try things that others say can’t be done. I have been doing stuff like that since i was your age and i am 70+ now…good for you. Eva Bird

Hi Eva, you could definitely try contacting Hometalk. I went looking online and there are a ton of pics of that project but absolutely no follow – so it was deleted from Hometalk at some point 🙁 You can try a search in Pinterest, I found several similar project that way though most of them were on countertops I would think you could use the same method on a floor. Good luck! Have a great week!
