We don’t always necessarily think of our homes as being “healthy” for us but certainly it should be at the top of our priority list. I know living by a school would have me go postal but, on the other hand, if I had kids in said school that could be a lot of convenience thus making it a much healthier place for us to live. There are many things I would sacrifice to live for our health and that, obviously, includes convenience and location. For me its the perfect location but living out in the sticks is certainly not for everyone!

There are many reasons as to why you may choose one lot of healthy real estate over another, especially if it’s to become your live-in, full-time home. Of course, the value of the property is important, as are the features that you care about, such as a nice driveway, enough bedrooms, renovated bathrooms, good security, and less tangible elements like being able to gain access to the nearest school should you decide to have children.
For others, however, choosing a house for a reason that might not seem applicable to someone else is key. For instance, it’s not uncommon for the elderly to try and live in homes that are more rural than urban, so they enjoy peace of quiet, can integrate in a nice local community, while still retaining reasonable (healthy) travel distance to those they love.
Selecting a house that might be preferable for your own health is an interesting topic to discuss, as it’s rarely brought up when recommending real estate advice. Yet the truth is that no matter what, the lifestyle you lead is often defined by where you live and the access this provides you. Let’s discuss how to achieve a better outcome in that frame of reference:
Lack of Pollution
A lack of pollution, both in its conventional sense and also referring to noise pollution that can cause residential distress, are both worth considering when selecting a property that works for you. For instance, it might be that beautiful homes in a given area seem like they offer amazing value for money, until you realize that most of the street is being rented out with large homes serving as multiple flats for local students; as well as the intensive parties that they throw each weekend. Keeping that in mind is key.
Community & Social Wellbeing
It’s healthy to think of the social well-being of your local environment. A good sense of community will help you become more integrated in that social sphere, no matter how much you choose to integrate with it. Simply knowing that you can trust those on your street to help you if you need it, or that the combined security efforts of the local environment means that you’re less likely to encounter trespassers, all of this makes a tremendous difference in the long run.
Homes Conducive To Your Needs
Homes that are conducive to your personal needs can be important. For instance, it might be that you wish for waterfront access by living in a lake front house, so that you have exposure to calming bodies of water and nature in your desire to live more naturally and healthily, but also to offset the pollution nearby as discussed. If you have certain mobility conditions or you’re getting on in age, then a home which is available to be retrofit with small functionalities, like stair aids or renovating bathroom space is very important. In the long run, this kind of approach can make a tremendous difference to your overall wellbeing.
With this advice, you’ll be better able to choose a house that aids your health going forward.
