June 2025 – Last year we camped out at the national park where we got married for our 2nd wedding anniversary over June 11th and it wasn’t awesome lol. I’ve camped out there for years and love tenting it but the forecast changed on us dramatically. The first night it literally FROZE. Then it stormed most of our first day. Then it froze again. Then it down poured all night. Then our camping mattress went flat so then we just went home. We knew we got lucky with perfect weather for our outdoor wedding in early June in northern MN but we won’t be hoping for that again lol.
So this June 2025, we decided to do something entirely different. We rented a little AIRBNB in a town that’s not far from us.
The room was affordable, right on the beach and within walking distance to a couple of restaurants and most of town.
Of course I couldn’t help but ask if we could take the truck and pick up mulch for my garden but Lodi knows that that’s pretty much the best anniversary present he could give me lol.
(June 2025 can’t wait to show you guys all the steps throughout the garden process, the mulch made it look so nice!)
The little room we rented came with a kitchenette so we packed like we were camping even though we missed the bon fire. We still brought all the snacks we would normally take camping and everything to make a big breakfast. (I fully admit, half of what I love about camping is the food we bring along because I always spoil us beyond all reason.)

It was definitely a nicer experience than last years breakfast huddled around the fire soaking wet and attempting not to freeze to death!
I did another treat for us too because in my opinion a 3pm check in and a 10am check out time is a fricking racket. So though we wouldn’t be staying a second night I rented the room for another night anyway and that 8 extra hours was absolutely worth it.
We slept in, lounged around, made our big campfire breakfast (that we ate in bed), enjoyed the view and the beach, went and saw a movie at the Theater, came back, took a nap and didn’t check out until after we had dinner on the lake at 7pm.
June 2025 the garden is starting to grow its rows of seedlings and I am reminded that my least favorite job is thinning out the rows as they’re all such adorable little fighters.
As expected my dirt kind of “collapsed” down with time and water but I’m leaving it alone because our veggies are still growing in just fine. Next year I will fill it in again as I expect to have to fill it in (at least) a little every year.
Most days I come home from work, change my clothes and do a bit of fussing (thinning out those poor seedlings) in my garden before turning the water on and dropping myself into one of our sun loungers by the old silo. The garden gets an hour long bath and I get an hour of sun bathing.
June 2025 it is just completely spectacular.
I’m still trying to decide what I want to build my outside flower beds out of this fall as I want them pretty much indestructible like the rest of the garden… such hard dilemmas that I ponder every evening lol
Is there at least the small chance that this is why I missed my garden so badly? Could it possibly be because I decided that I just HAVE to babysit it while I’m in a semi prone position in the direct sun for an hour while it gets watered every day after work?
