Choosing a New Light Fixture for the Master Bedroom was pretty fun for me. Frankly the old one was absolutely beautiful but I’m really moving away from such “fancy” feelings up here and wanting something more farmhouse casual and even a little boho. This space was just not feeling like us at all and I was simply just SICK of the old light fixture. So, with us moving into redesigning our entire second floor master suite the very first thing I did before painting was taking out the old one. It headed to our local thrift store and I headed to Amazon to find something new!

One of the things I really didn’t like about the old chandelier was how low it hung down.

Every time I made the bed I hit it with either the sheet or the blanket and always freaked out thinking I broke the dang thing or a bulb etc. Every. Single. Time.

No more of that!

I knew I wanted the new light fixture to be more casual and, also, to not hang so low.

After lots of looking and (eventually) bypassing a lovely tiffany style fixture with lots of color I decided on this pretty beaded light fixture.

Its actually bigger than our old chandelier but much more lower profile.

Painting the master bedroom and the chimney too. It has finally started guys! I am so excited to finally tackle our second floor! First thing

Planning a new bedroom design for our entire second floor master suite. I made two mistakes when I renovated this home and then moved in

I took it out of the package and got to work. I was pretty impressed they sent gloves so I didn’t “hurt” myself or the fixture lol, what the heck?

The old chandelier drew blood twice just taking it down!

Most light fixtures are really simple to install.

First turn the breaker off and make sure that it is OFF.

(This is the little power tester I prefer. Its non contact and comes with an outlet tester as well. Neither have ever let me down.)

I generally replace the wire nuts that come with fixtures because they’re usually pretty tiny and I ran 12/2 gauge wire throughout this home so its nice having bigger ones to accommodate that. (Though its not necessary at all.)

There’s generally a green screw on the first hardware to install on the light box – that’s where the ground (copper) wire gets wrapped around.

Normally I would connect the black wire to the black wire (power) and the white wire to the white wire (neutral) using the wire nuts but, in this case, there was no definition between the fixture wires which is pretty common too especially with fixtures made in Europe.

I then threaded the base to the electrical box with screws after carefully tucking the wires inside of it.

It was really quick after that!

I screwed the center rod to the base and then added the rest of the light fixture, securing it to the rod with a screw. From there it was just hanging all the beads!

We had gone a couple of weeks without a main light fixture up here which wasn’t a big deal but it did mean that when we turned this one on it was much more dramatic than it otherwise would have been!

So much more light though I only used 40watt bulbs!

On the selling page for the fixture they show them using Edison bulbs but I really wasn’t looking for a yellow glow up here. Instead I used daylight bulbs and we really love it.

Lighting (not unlike paint) can make an ENORMOUS difference in a room.

I think I made the right choice with this fixture, its already moving this room in the right direction for us, I can’t wait to keep working on the design up here!

Lots more fun things to do!
