Master bedroom tour, the final completion of the entire redesign of our second floor bedroom. Woah guys how many months has it been? I started on our second floor last winter and am so so thrilled to show you guys the final completion of the bedroom portion. (I’m just finishing up the closet and bathroom too.) There was nothing wrong with our old master bedroom it really just wasn’t US and we were both ready for a change.
Complete listing of everything it took for us to finally get here:
We painted out the whole room and did some rearranging.
We added a bedroom door and hung our mirror on it.
We added a second closet rod in Lodi’s closet.
We installed a brand new light fixture.
We reupholstered our tufted headboard.
We added new window treatments and hanging plants.
We added power strips and a new coat of paint to our end tables.
We put up a new book shelf above the headboard.
And added a few Sleeping Aids so we both sleep well here.
It seems I crave silence more than most people which is probably due to my day job in IT customer service. When I come home I just can’t look at another screen or answer another phone!
Which is why I do as little screen work on the weekends as possible so I can give my eyes and brain a break.
And this space is my perfect place for doing just that.
After Lodi moved in he asked if I wanted him to bring our extra Kuerig and his little refrigerator up here but I told him, “If you did that I would NEVER leave this floor!”
(jokingly)
Lodi: Are you gonna come down today?
Me: Why?
Lodi: Its been three days…
Our second floor is so soothing and quiet compared to the rest of the house – its like stepping up onto another planet. The walls are close and the ceilings are low – it is only technically a half floor.
It gives a wonderful feeling of coziness that the rest of the house (with higher than average ceilings) just has no way of giving. Our main floor is bright, light, spacious, airy, open and with a TON of windows and glass doors.
But I don’t want to give the impression that our master suite is cave-like… It feels more like a tree house actually. A hideaway. It doesn’t need blackout shades because of the trees most of the year but it still gets lovely light that is almost like a constant twilight.
Its great for sleeping pretty much any time of the day.
And the amount of storage up here is awesome.
I have my dream walk through closet that takes us to the master bathroom. Another closet besides that Lodi uses which we added another rod to for even more hanging storage for him.
And the three dressers left to me by my Grandparents give us all the storage that we need besides.
We moved several pieces of furniture around and we repainted the entire floor along with the chimney. (The walls are Sooty Lashes by Valspar.) We reupholstered the headboard, added a book shelf, charging stations to our end tables and started spreading things we love around the whole bedroom.
Back in 2018 (after my divorce) a person commented that finally I was able to go from cold, stark spaces to bringing color into my life. I thought it was very accurate and such a sweet thing to notice at the time.

I want a lovely home but I realized that what I wanted more than anything was a home perfect for us.
And I’m absolutely convinced that I can have both!
(Though it may not be everyone’s cup of tea of course…)
The old ladder that I upcycled moved out of my closet wound up working great for Lodi beside his dresser, providing some much needed hanging space for hats and belts.
Our guest bedroom needed to grow up so all of my books needed a new home becoming one of my favorite décor features!
And it makes so much sense too, I love books!
A whole bunch of my favorites are now spread across the shelf above the headboard. Besides books though that shelf also gave me a nice opportunity to include personal décor for both of us.
I changed up our bedding with new sheets in a fun color and this gorgeous quilt that we both love.
Another big change is the new chandelier we installed. This is a pretty low ceiling and we hit that old dangly light all the time just making the bed!
The hassock makes a great step up for our dog Annie to get on the bed though usually she just sleeps on it like its her own tufted throne. Do we spoil her? Never! Along the wall I removed the dog bed (which she never used), the old little dresser beside it (which is now in my closet) and we found a much better spot for the mirror too.
Emptying that wall made the entire space feel a lot bigger.
And that empty wall provided a great spot to hang our robes and I can’t think of a better first sight representation of this space than cozy robes!
I replaced the window treatments and came up with an easy way to still bring some plants into the room without blocking so much light. (And the ugly window fan we replaced with a cute little sound machine.)
The entire space aides in healing, silence, comfort: REST.
No screens, very little change in light because of all of the trees and a whole floor well insulated against any outside noise.
As well as a few sleeping aids to accommodate both of our needs…
Finally having a door on the master for the first time was huge for me. That old door waited almost 7 years to be hung up here, it also gave us the perfect spot to hang our full length mirror too.
Lodi often rises before me and now, with the shut of the door, he doesn’t have to worry about waking me so easily. And vice versa!
I use Mugwort, Lavender and Lilac oil on a blanket that never strays far from our pillows. Jasmine is also a constant scent up here as I wear it as a perfume and Lodi’s favorite pine tar soap just adds to the overall sweet and earthy smell of the whole floor.
The joint effect of it all together is a trigger for us. Our bodies know when we step up here: we are safe, we can rest, we can heal.
We all deserve a place of peace in our homes.
Check out that lovely “I love you more” print I gifted to Lodi last Xmas.
I did this redesign purely for us and it was SO worth it!
