Master Bathroom and Master Closet Tour it dawned on me this is the first time I’ve done a full reveal of these two rooms together. WAY back in 2015 was the last time you guys saw the closet and, even then, it wasn’t much of a reveal. You know I’ve been working on our master suite second floor for nearly a year now. I refused to stop until every. last. thing. I could think of was completed and / or fixed. I’m very happy with how it all turned out!
(You can see the master bedroom reveal here.)
Its the smallest of the two “bedrooms” up here and was my mom’s bedroom after my grandparents moved downstairs.
This second floor was empty for decades before I came along and it was the first certainty I had of this home that this second floor would make an amazing master suite!
A lot went into this space to make it what it is today:
This space started with a complete repainting.
I changed out the shelf design above the bathtub.
Our rolling barn door needed some work.
And the vanity also needed some attention as well.
I gave an old storage bench a makeover as well.
A couple of new additions that I just love is the colorful boho shower curtain and the window curtains which was actually a valance I cut in half! I also added that pretty dream catcher and little touch lamp too.
Before I was using one of our dressers in the bedroom for clothes meaning I was walking across the entire floor to get dressed every morning. With a little purging in my case (and utilizing the storage bench too) I was able to get all of my clothes actually IN my closet!
And that left the dresser in the master for something we desperately needed which was storage for sheets, linens and blankets.
Yes I am including two pictures of our windows and its certainly not just to show off the cute curtains its so you can see my lovely view every morning. Our old barn is slipping down to the earth very slowly but I do love seeing her when I get up every day.
I also check on my horse every morning too ๐
The rocker was one of my very first ever DIY projects and I’m still rather smitten with how it turned out. Its been housed just about everywhere in the house up until now.
I think this is absolutely where it belongs and I can’t believe I didn’t notice it sooner!
In this master closet tour I have to mention the amazing amount of hanging space I have. And, with some space saving hangers, I even get to hang up all of my pants!
I also splurged awhile back on velvet covered hangers and honestly, guys, they’re a game changer.
I was lucky as a kid that I always had plenty of closet space but this “closet” for me is really a dream. I love having everything out where I can see it!
To be fair my old camera isn’t taking the shots that it used to HOWEVER these spaces are all north facing resulting in very little natural light.
Of course I like that about these spaces as they’re always kind of twilit and moody feeling.
Regular table lamps are not necessarily something you see in closets let alone bathrooms but this space doesn’t exactly feel like those two things. In fact the entire space just feels like one room including the bedroom.
Which I think is awesome because neither space is all that big and with the half ceilings the last thing I wanted was for these spaces to feel claustrophobic.
In fact all I added up here was the wall between the closet and bathroom but chose the rolling barn door so it didn’t get in the way.
And, obviously, it was during the renovation that I removed the centered old window and replaced it with the two new ones.
The staircase was so steep and narrow it was like climbing a mountain! (Another absolute certainty when I started the remodel – that had to go!)
This floor was like a time capsule back then: both kind of sad and very very cool.
My Grandmother’s two dressers lived up here for decades. It was amazing to refinish them and bring them right back up here. One of them went right back to the same spot I found it in!
The doorway this photo was taken in never moved. It remains as the “entrance” to the closet. I added a wall and replaced the center window with two smaller windows on either side.
Shoveling insulation… OMG was this a nasty job! Decades old insulation (and god knows what else) plus original lath and plaster. It really never felt like it would EVER end.
You can see the door way to the left which is in the same place it was when I tackled this space. These closets are literally where my closet and all my hanging clothes are now ๐
