Motion Sensor Lights in our Stairwell

Adding motion sensor lights to our stairwell. So WAY back when I posted about my plan for this stairwell it also included adding an outlet that would face into our home so when we stepped toward it we could “set off” anything we plugged in to it. (I didn’t want to have to mess with batteries or have to charge anything.) I was going to plug-in LED strips and run them all the way up and down the stairwell. The reason for all of this is because we have to step down into the area before we can reach the switch. Its not good. I don’t want to fall down the stairs cause I can’t see!

If this doesn’t work out I can still add an outlet here in the future but I’m pretty sure we’re gonna keep on loving this much easier solution instead.

Call it 5 minutes of my time and $30 compared to at least a few hours of my time and $50… but an outlet would mean we wouldn’t be using batteries.

So that’s going to be the deciding factor here.

How long are these lights going to last?

I found these adorable little motion sensor lights for only $13.99 for a pack of six and they have fantastic reviews.

They’ve have a lot going for them in my opinion.

Each one takes three AAA batteries, they only come on when its dark and they only stay on a few seconds.

We only use our stairwell a couple of times a week so I’m feeling really confident they’re going to last a really long time for us.

One thing is they are super duper sensitive at a few feet so though that’s a great thing at the top of the stairs the two at the bottom steps we may have to move.

Anyone who is staying down here and walks within a few feet of the staircase (if its dark) will set them off and that’s not only going to wear out the batteries ASAP but that would also be really annoying.

Before moving them though I’m going to see if I can’t just add a little piece of black tape to the side of them to tone down the sensitivity a bit because I WANT them at the bottom for when we’re coming down.

These motion sensor lights fixed our problem completely.

I don’t even get to top step before one comes on now to light my way and they’re so bright I don’t even bother to turn on the overhead light most of the time.

So, we’ll see how long they last and how long they stay “stuck” its been a few weeks now and so far so good or gorilla glue it is.

Also, they’re made to forever stay in place, you don’t have to “unstuck” them to change the batteries. You simply twist off the “bulb” and to replace the batteries.
