New directional light fixture for the office. A few years back my mom hired me to update her little guest house and it was a big job. It was dated and ROUGH but we both really loved how it turned out in the end. I’m very happy with my choice in Grandma’s house to do mostly recessed lights throughout – I much prefer them to just one big light in the middle of a room. However, I wasn’t able to do that in every room of the house and this room is a good example.

The reason I brought up mom’s little house was because I had a moment of deja vu lol.

Here I am looking up at that light box just hating the idea of one little light up there providing crappy lighting for the whole space. A basic flush mount light fixture would be no better than what I already have here… or maybe even worse.

(The two hanging lights that were here did their job for task lighting well but they’re totally wrong for this space now.)

And the dark paint isn’t helping at all… it really swallows the light.

It was the same situation in the little house with the main room lit by all of three bulbs in the middle of the ceiling.

My thinking cap brought me to a three bulb directional light fixture in the little house and my gosh did it help a lot!

I know “directional” lights can be considered pretty dated (very 80s along with the dreaded track lighting…) but I felt it was the only way I could improve the lighting in here so I found and ordered this one on Amazon.

It was $50 which made me wince a little bit but I think its my best option.

I uninstalled the ceiling fixture I made a few years back and got to work!

The vaulted ceiling in this room was another reason the lighting in here was such a pain. The far wall with the door on it never felt like it had any light at all.

With three directional bulbs now though I was able to point them down at each corner of the far wall and wow what a difference.

The third bulb I pointed to the back right corner behind my desk.

The whole room lit up so much better and much less garishly as well! I also feel the new lighting compliments the high ceiling while the old light fixture really brought it down before.

Just a couple more things and I can call our new office done!
