November 2023 came and went beautifully for us here in northern MN. Not that it was “hot” out by any means but it was really mild for this time of the year and we still have barely any snow! Crossing my fingers that December might give us much of the same. We had a hell of a winter last year (broke snow fall records of over 90 inches) and a really long wintry spring that would just not end. We absolutely deserve a mild one this go around!

We even hit 50 degrees (pretty much miraculous) a couple of times in mid November.

Unfortunately for us just before Halloween both Lodi and I got hit by Covid and damn did it suck. Its our second go around and it really lingers.

We were quite bummed to be miserable on the couch over Halloween as we had planned on at least going out for it this year.

Maybe next year I guess!

As for Turkey day Lodi and I got to do something both totally different for us since we’ve
been together and absolutely awesome too.

Those that have been following along know that Lodi’s Grandma made the very bitter sweet decision to go into an assisted living and sell her home this spring. (With Grandpa having passed she had been alone there for years so I was both sad but also relieved for her.)

She chose us to take her little dog Yip Yip. (Whom we have dubbed Link, Spud, Spudsley, Sir Spudington and Prancer.)

Where she had been before was about an 8 hour round trip drive from us. So, the last few years we had been facetiming holidays with Lodi’s brother and Grandma as he was much closer.

But now she’s just a couple of hours away!

November 2023 after more years than Lodi can remember he got to spend an actual holiday, in person, with his Grandma!

And, of course, we took her dog for a visit too.

It was pretty sweet (to say the least). Little guy was happy to see her and recognized his “chair” immediately lol.)

That weekend, after hosting for several years at Grandma’s house it was a cool change to go to my Mom’s new house for Thanksgiving!

Our place is fine for maybe a dozen people but after that is why we always host big gatherings in the summer so we can utilize our outdoor spaces.

November 2023, Mom’s house is much bigger so we were able to invite all of our immediate family!

We’ve always done turkey on Thanksgiving and ham on Easter. I know that is pretty typical but it is sounding more and more like people are just opting out of turkey.

I don’t even blame them!

Tackling a whole turkey is a big job which is why I tackled both turkeys the day before. (With the bigger crowd I felt it made more sense to make two birds.)

I utilized a big electric roaster pan and just let them cook long and slow for hours the day before and then just warmed them up quick the next day.

(FYI – When hosting big holidays electric roaster pans are second ovens that you can put anywhere and can be total God sends.)

As usual I went ahead and broke down both of the birds, saving the legs, innards, neck, wings and most of the carcasses to freeze for future stock making.

Breaking them down like that gives a lot more control on getting an even cook throughout (as opposed to half the bird being notoriously dry…) it cuts down on cooking time and eliminates all waste too.

And, in true “me” fashion… I tackled the two birds, got everything cooking and then headed into a DIY project that I started right before the holiday lol *facepalm*

I know we all say it over and over again that they just don’t make things like they used to but seriously our dishwasher isn’t even four years old…

So, when it quit working a few months ago, I went ahead and hired a guy to come out and fix it for a little over $200.

It worked about a month…

And now it runs at least but it won’t dry anything and is doing, frankly, a really poor job.

Am I right to be annoyed about this? I swear the dishwasher from my childhood ran for like 20 years!

What’s even worse is that Lodi tried to convince me to just go ahead and buy another one when this one broke…

…and I convinced him we should just get it fixed…

*sighs*

November 2023 Now to fully cement the fact that we are, in fact, adults, Lodi and I are going to splurge on a better than “nice” dishwasher as an Xmas present to ourselves and I’m stupidly excited about it.

Not much else to report on the home front. I really have no idea where this month went. Is it really already time to start thinking about Xmas?

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and happy November 2023!

It’s great to hear about how wonderful things are going for you all (except the covid part, but thankfully you’ve recovered). It sounds like you are growing into a new season-of-life and loving it! Plus, you’re now a two-dog household as you already know, two dogs are so much more of all the good stuff than the sum of just themselves ๐Ÿ™‚
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas! Best wishes always!

Thank you Toni and that was very insightful – you are so right that two dogs definitely brought a lot of joy to our home!
