Figuring out the office furniture we want in our new space. With the rug layering / floor situation figured out this room is starting to feel much cozier. It was time to start thinking about what I would be bringing back and, also, what we may have to purchase. Of course the two tables never left that I’ll be using for my desks. (I painted them both out in black Rustoleum last year.) So they are in position where they will remain along with the rugs.

(I still have to bring the art back in and decorate of course but that will be my last step.)

For now I needed to decide what other furniture we wanted in here.

I had an image in my head of a lounger, a chaise, a cozy corner to curl up in with a book that would also double as extra sleeping in a pinch.

The piece of furniture I wanted turned out to be harder to find than I anticipated.

I must’ve looked at every chaise lounge on Amazon… (they’re all disappointingly narrow BTW.)

Not to mention the rabbit hole of day beds and love seats and, yes… even futons.

Technically I knew unless we actually purchased a day bed frame and a bed for it – we would probably be getting a futon.

I was just hoping for a “nice” futon and not a “college dorm” futon. I was imagining lots of pillows and throws and even a little bit of a boho theme.

I don’t know if I’ve ever admitted this on the blog but we have a stupid amount of extra pillows due to an old neck injury of mine that leaves me on the eternal quest for the perfect pillow…

We have at least a dozen extra regular sleeping pillows and we also have a full body pillow and two BIG pillows that we will never use. (And pillows are too stupidly expensive to throw away…)

So, ideally, with the perfect piece of furniture, I would even be able to utilize our excess of pillows.

It turned out to be a pretty tall order but I found it!

And it was affordable!

And adorable!

And it is technically a futon and I’m cool with that.

It was very easy to put together with two arm rests, two main pieces and feet with it all sliding together with brackets.

(Funny story: It was supposed to show up on a Saturday. A big box came on Thursday and another big box came on Friday and then I waited and waited for what I assumed had to be a third box. I was missing the arms and the feet! I was just about to send a note to the seller on Amazon when (for whatever reason) I remembered seeing zippers on the backs and thought, “No way… Really?” Low and behold they were, in fact, zippered into the backs of the main pieces lol.)

I wanted a lounge and chaise feeling and I got that by laying the whole piece flat and then on came all of our extra pillows!

Loving it actually…

And its pretty comfortable too.

What I didn’t anticipate (and absolutely SHOULD have) was that I just inadvertently gave our dogs something they’ve never been tall enough for before. Using the sofa they can now see out the window to our front yard and driveway.

They are very excited.

Its going to get a lot of dog use lol.

Across from our new sofa now just became a pretty ideal place for a TV and a gaming station. But I’m not tackling that idea yet as we have plenty of places to watch TV and game in this house but it is definitely something that will happen in the future…

The last couple of pieces I brought in was a little end table I inherited from my great aunt, a thrift store lamp and a red stool of Lodi’s that we also had in storage.

When I gave Lodi one of the big tables I didn’t need in here anymore I told him he could have the “good” table and he was understandably confused by what I meant by that lol.

I removed the back brace off of one of these tables intentionally several years ago.

(The reason I did this was so the table could be used easily from both sides allowing two people to sit comfortably across from each other. Hence, this is a great opportunity for the stool.)

However, without the cross brace on the back you have to be very careful when moving this table around as it is heavy and the legs could easily fold right off. (I secured it to the smaller table so there is no issue.)

So, I consider it the not “good” table but it is serving the purpose that I want it to!

I expect for us to enjoy many hours in here working on lego building or puzzles together.

Just a couple more things I can’t wait to show you guys. I installed a new light fixture and curtains on the closet and they did a ton to help this space out.

hey thanks for sharing this . I love the futon. Is the beadboard on the ceiling original or did you add that. Love that. Beadboard is classic.

Unfortunately there wasn’t any beadboard here when I renovated but I thought it was the perfect choice so I did all the ceilings in it ๐Ÿ™‚
