The final reveal of our office workshop! I’m sure its old news at this point but I’m just so happy with my new office here. How long has it been since I moved it from the entryway? Over 6 months for sure! But every time I come in here I am still just smitten and so glad to have it. Finally some space to work and play. I think just about everyone can identify trying to work from home without actually having a real office. Whether we’re trying to work on the couch with a laptop or at the dining room table… We can make it work but frankly there is nothing like having a REAL desk… not to mention an actual dedicated office space.
I ended up spending more money in here (spoiling myself to be frank) than I normally do on a space. Did I really need that adorable eye caring lamp or a new office chair…
…or that cool orange mat thing I have under my keyboard and mouse?
No, I could have totally lived with the old banker’s chair and goodness knows we have extra lamps I could have used!
But this is my first real office space I’ve had in a really long time and, honestly, it still isn’t its own space as it is still shoving it into our workshop! So, getting a few things on my bucket list to make it feel like a real office felt ok to me… even though it did make my frugal self cringe quite a bit.
The office chair alone improved my life x1000.
That old banker’s chair was absolutely gorgeous but my gosh I don’t know how anyone survived sitting in it more than a couple of hours at a time…
Also I certainly didn’t feel bad purchasing a window shade for $30+ so I wouldn’t be blinded whenever I tried to work in here anytime between noon and dark.
The $100+ office shelves beside the desk were an absolute must for more storage. With the price of building materials now I also don’t think it would have cost me that much less to build it. (Especially if you factor in my time and paint.)
There was a bit of very required painting in this room.
The old stained white table, the office tables and the stencil to improve the look of the doggie door all needed to be done.
It is interesting how my life has changed over the years.
But I guess after seven years I no longer have a totally unfinished home! (Who knew lol)
But nowadays this room was basically a storage area for our tools, where we charged all of our batteries and our back entryway for our dogs to pass through to get to their kennel.
So it really worked out to move my office in here to re-utilize the space.
Now I use it several times a week!
I still dream of one day having a dedicated workshop OUT of the house for our tools someday though.
Right now Lodi is using our guest bedroom for his own gaming space and it really would be awesome to have a full on “office / gaming den” and this would be a perfect place for us both. It could even include a small futon to give another option for people sleeping over.
I have to admit my brain has been trying to see if I could still create the gamer den / office of my dreams here without having to do anything as drastic as building another building…
There is A LOT of stuff in here we use so rarely that if we had decent long term storage somewhere we could empty about 3/4s of this space. The plumbing bin, sheetrock bin and the electrical bin are good examples! Not to mention practically ALL of the leftover house paint…
We could keep the batteries and some specific household tools and drivers in here etc…
I’m trying very hard to stop my brain!
Because this is working lol
I love it!!
Thank you!!
