Organizing one very ugly corner

Have we all got at least one disorganized spot that drives us nuts? Well, after all this work I’ve been doing in our former workshop I was still left frowning at my special corner of ugly in the closet. It was time for me to figure out a decent way to organize pipe clamps, paint roll extenders (mostly broom handles because they screw right into paint rollers…) pretty much tall round rods of every capacity… there’s even a flag poll in there somewhere and yep that’s a big roll of brown paper.

The issue is the vast difference in all of them as they range in height from 4 feet down to 2 and the difference in the weight of a galvanized pipe clamp and a little itty bitty curtain rod.

(not to mention the odd ball of our sheetrock square in there too…)

So anytime I attempt to remove anything I end up with a domino effect and generally a pipe clamp to the foot.

I’m so over it.

Also in the back of this corner is our router that I protected several years ago with a bin but I still worry about it living in this chaos.

(I was pretty proud of that little project actually. I cut the back off of a heavy duty plastic bin with a hinged lid and then screwed it to the wall around the router. Our internet has been safe and sound ever since.)

Once I pulled everything out the answer became pretty obvious lol.

All I needed to handle the chaos was one board.

Just one.

And I even had the board on hand.

The shelf I ran under the work bench to hold paint was the perfect height to simply extend over into the corner. Two screws later and I had all the support I needed.

Does it look like all I did was move the chaos from one spot, two feet over, to the other?

That is correct.

I should have called this blog post, “Why do we let things drive us crazy for so long when all it takes is five minutes to deal with the situation?”

With the organization of the corner I now have the perfect spot to hide our trash can too so that was a double plus.

Eventually I’ll probably put some shelves in here as it is a lot of space.

I’m so annoyed with myself for putting up with this for so long but very glad I finally took care of it!
