Some updates in our dining room and a simple spring tablescape. Teaming up in our DIY Blog Hop this month with dining room projects! (We’d love for you to join us by linking up below or click here for more info!) One of my favorite parts about spring here in MN is how the local grocery stores all stock up on flowers as soon as the weather turns. Lodi has learned that my coming home with an armful is no longer a unique or strange sight. Until my own flowers show their faces I simply can’t help myself!

Its just so sweet to wake up in the morning, or come home from work, to a bright and cheery bouquet of fresh flowers.

I finished up the whole Entryway/Dining room/Office over a year ago now. It was SO horrifically smoke stained and yucky! All the work was worth it though, it is seriously one of my favorite spaces now.

Since then we’ve made some practical changes to the space.

One of the table lamps from the master bedroom ended up on the entryway dresser, the old rockers that were here got retired and the table that sat between them headed to the master bathroom. In their place I added what I’m calling my “plant table” because I just keep collecting plants and this is where they end up…

None of it is as pretty as I would like yet though for the dining room. I plan on adding a skirt to my plant table and building shelves beneath it for extra shoe storage and our boot dryers to have a convenient (hidden) home.

Around the table I created some extra seating by adding one of the benches my grandparents’ made. The bench also makes a great stash to keep Annie’s dog food. (Fun tid bit: Lodi and I sat beside each other for the first time on that bench and I guess the rest is history lol)

I added a new table runner and a pretty table cloth a couple of months ago.

This is Minnesota and its not freezing out anymore which means our doors and windows will be open as often as the weather deems it at all possible. We’re outside every chance we get and grilling practically every day.

Just about every dinner now feels like a picnic so I set the table for easy access utensils and anything else we may need including “unbreakable” dishes. Nothing fancy but perfect for us for this time of the year.

Whose ready for hot dogs, sweet corn, watermelon and potato salad?!

I just love your red and blue dining room. I’m happy to hear that I’m not the only one with a plant table. I’ve got one in my kitchen too. It’s the only place my plants are happy. I look forward to seeing more of your posts.

Looks very ready for spring and summer! You have such interesting choice and colors and combinations of materials too. I never would have thought of adding those red chairs to a farmhouse dining room. Your flowers are gorgeous your garden must be coming along pretty well?

Thanks Nancy! I picked out the chairs a LONG time ago and always thought they were an odd choice but I really like them lol The gardens are finally really coming along, we needed rain so bad and we finally got some!
