Your home is a space you should be proud of. It’s the place you spend a lot of your life, whether that’s relaxing in the evening after going to work, or spending the weekends in, when you have finished exploring. With this in mind, it’s important you make sure your home is in the best condition possible. Not only because this will help keep its value (or help it increase value), but it will also make you proud to be in it, and you will enjoy your time in it a lot more.

There are so many changes you can make to your home to make it a space you’re proud of. In 2026, new trends have come out, as well as technology that you should consider installing – smart thermostats make your life a lot easier when it’s cold outside! Lighting is also very important, and with companies like Corston architectural hardware & lighting, you can really take it to the next level.

To help inspire you, here is our guide on three changes you should be making to your home in 2026.

Lighting

We just touched upon lighting as it’s something that is often overlooked, even though it can make a huge difference to your home. Poor lighting can make even the most beautifully decorated space feel flat, while well-planned lighting adds warmth, depth, and character. Consider using different types of lighting, whether that’s standing lamps, side lamps or spot lights. You should also invest in smart lighting solutions as these will make your life a lot easier – never again will you need to get out of bed to turn the living room light off, because you forgot.

Invest in Smart Heating

Smart home technology continues to evolve, and heating is one of the most impactful areas to upgrade. Smart thermostats are becoming more popular and something a lot of new homes will feature as time goes by. The reasons are simple: you can control a smart thermostat via your phone (and voice if you have a Google Home or Alexa), and it tracks your usage a lot more efficiently. This can help lower energy bills through efficient usage and give you greater control when you’re away from home.

Prioritising your garden

Just like your lighting, too many people neglect their garden and focus on the inside of their home instead. This is understandable, but if your budget allows it, try to turn your focus to your garden, as this will enhance the overall feel of your whole home. There are a lot of things you can do yourself in your garden, such as repainting and ensuring the lawn is mowed. You can also try to install decking – it’s not as hard as it looks. Plus, decking gives a new lease of life to your garden and a space you can host as well as relax yourself after a hard day at work.
