Throwing back to my first Master Bedroom Reveal
WOW my first ever master bedroom reveal from back in early 2016. Eight years ago this room definitely looked very different than it does now lol. I’ve had several of these come out over the years and I can honestly say the bedroom as it is now is definitely my favorite. About the only thing I’ve considered going back to over the years is maybe moving the bed back to under the windows. But with the attic wall situation up here there really aren’t a whole lot of options.

My master bedroom reveal! I know I know I know, we’ve been living in the house 6 months and I still have not posted anything resembling a reveal of the rooms besides when it was empty and we first moved in!
I’m sorry guys, you are allowed to throw tomatoes at me. The truth is I’m just not an interior designer so making the rooms pretty for pictures really stresses me out. I don’t feel like I am any good at dressing rooms up at all but I guess this is how I learn!

The other big thing that’s stopped me from really posting the reveals is that the rooms really aren’t “DONE” yet. But, like every blogger would tell me, they will never be done lol. So, without further delay let’s take a trip down memory lane and see how far I’ve come!
Just check out that linoleum! If you look close you can see that there is an incredible amount of dead bugs on the floor, yes this was the longest abandoned and creepiest part of the whole house.
It started where my mom and aunt were in the this room and my grandparents were in the other room but as they grew up my grandparents moved downstairs and this became my aunt’s bedroom. So, when she moved out, it pretty much never had anyone in it again and that was forty years ago!
When I began my big renovation this is where I started gutting and I will never forget shoveling the ancient, filthy, absolutely horrible insulation, plaster and lath down the staircase! I was NEVER dirtier then I was that day! Hard to believe that under all of that were gorgeous hard wood floors!
This is my favorite room in the house, it feels like an escape, like a tree house, like my own private place and hideaway. Sometimes, I’ll come up and sprawl out in the middle of the bed after work and just breathe the day away.
Once I finally got the room gutted then I ran all of the electrical and finally got the new plumbing done. So, from there it was bead board and sheet rock. Here’s a shot of right after I spray painted the whole place with primer and then all of my trim and bead board white! I remember that day like it was yesterday because once the paint goes up you literally go from a construction zone to a home in just a couple of hours.
It was incredible.
I always had in mind exactly what I wanted for the house and I had an inkling that because I would be running the bead board to the floor (essentially making half of the walls in the master bedroom white) I was going to want to go with a much darker color elsewhere simply because I could.
Its called Sooty Lashes by Valpsar and I love it!
As far as the design goes it all started with the passing of my other Grandma: Eleonora. You’ve seen her mentioned a couple of times here along the way in my Before & After of Eleonora’s Rocker and Eleonora’s buffet/my entertainment center.
You’ve also probably heard me mention my incredible and undeniably sexy white leather tufted hassock. It was in Eleonora’s attic for my whole life as far as I can remember and when they said each of us Grand kids could pick a couple of things to keep I went right for it.
It also scared me a little bit, everybody here probably knows by now that I am not a panty-hose-wearing, dress-loving or pearl-wearing kind of gal. However, that did not stop me from entirely falling in love and from there, everything else fell for it too.
Growing up I never had my own real bedroom set, my dresser and end table that I used before were made by my Grandparents and it only made sense that they returned to my mom as they matched her own dresser and end table that they had also made.
Amazingly, in this very room (before I started my renovation) my Grandma’s old bedroom set was just sitting here waiting for several decades for me to claim.
(At some point they came over on the boat with her.)
The two dressers were just gorgeous, delicate, with huge mirrors and curvy lines, incredibly elegant. They were beautiful as they were but a little beat up and both had veneer pealing in a few places.
I made the choice to paint with my heart in my throat and I just did it before I could think too much knowing that there was no going back and, if I hesitated, I feared I would never get up the courage again. You can check them out in my blog posts about them here:

The renovation took just over fifteen months and, of course, I’m still not entirely done. I am still lacking just one more major thing up here: A door on the bedroom! It isn’t a huge deal as my master bedroom has its own floor but all rooms need doors and getting a door on this bedroom has been on my to do list since we moved in!
If you see the new reveal of this room you’ll see that I finally got my new platform bed frame built and added two new end tables as well!
