Throwing back to the last piece of my Hollywood bedroom set!
This old beauty is still with us after I came out with this blog post from back in December of 2015. She now stores all of our extra blankets, sheets etc. for the master bedroom. Both this dresser and the other one we still use every day and are a couple of my favorite before and afters. You guys know I am a hardcore wood person. I rarely ever paint anything and am far more likely to strip a piece of furniture and refinish it. But these pieces were not solid wood actually so I took a leap and I still just adore how it turned out!

And now, I’ve come to the final piece of the puzzle of my bedroom set. The last Hollywood dresser before and after reveal! (8/1/2019 OMG I can’t believe its been three years since this post came out! Since then my master bedroom has gone through a ton of transformations, almost as many as I have myself! I’m a single gal now and if you would like see my master bedroom haven as it is now check it out here!)
And now, this final Hollywood dresser has settled into its place. The story of this dresser and her sister is a short but very cool one. These two came over on the boat with grandma at some point. We don’t know how long she had them, could have been her whole life, could have been given to her from her her own mother.
All we know is that for as all as all of us can remember these two pieces sat up stairs in this very room that became my master bedroom for DECADES.
When grandma left us my aunt and mom wanted me to have these and my heart absolutely skipped a beat. They called for black paint, for shiny things, for sexy and beautiful, they called for Hollywood and I answered!
After their many years up in the second floor of my grandma’s farm house, first being used a little then not being used at all. They collected dust and remained in just perfect shape. However, as much as it kills me to paint wood, they were not exactly solid wood.
Incredibly old? Oh yes.
But, still, they were veneer, and though they were beautiful, they were not perfect anymore and had their share of dents and nicks and water stains. Painting scared the hell out of me, but I plunged on ahead anyway.
After two coats of primer, three coats of black matter spray paint and four coats of poly acrylic (sanding between most coats by hand with ultra fine grit sand paper) this dresser and her sister absolutely took my breath away.
With the unique challenges of having my master bedroom in the second story, which is not a full second story, I just have very few places to put a dresser, especially a dresser with a mirror on it. Both dressers have mirrors and there was no way in hell I was going to use them without the mirror.
So, this dresser is also doubling the night stand on the other side of my bed. The washstand became my night stand and the other dresser I literally designed a spot for when I framed in the other closet, or I would have had no place to put it up here.
Now, I just have a couple of closet doors to build and my entire second story, my master bedroom, my master bathroom and master closet(s) will be all but done and I will finally be able to reveal it to you!
