Tiny Bathroom Paint choices and cheating a little… The main floor bathroom has so many issues that I’ve just been ignoring it since I finished the renovation and moved in in 2015. Ok to be fair “issues” is an over statement. Basically this little space works totally fine its just so tiny its hard for me to take it that seriously. It doesn’t have any natural light either so that also makes it a nightmare to photograph. One thing it needed beyond all else though was a fresh coat of paint!

After a thorough cleaning I put another coat of poly on the floors, covered them up and then I moved on to choosing my tiny bathroom paint color.

I headed to Ace hardware with swatches of my main four favorite paint colors in hand. Fait Accompli from my Entryway, Flannel Gray from the Guest Bedroom, Tom Cat from my Workshop and Sooty Lashes from the Master Bedroom.

(Somehow almost ALL of the paint colors in this house are by Valspar despite my always looking at all of the paint options available at Ace.)

Knowing exactly how those four look in the house gives me a leg up when choosing a new paint color. All of my paints are in the dark gray family either as a true gray or more of a blue gray or green gray. (I like gray, what of it?)

I’ve never done a more purple/stormy gray so I decided to go looking for that.

And then I stepped into my local Ace Hardware and their Valspar color selection was GONE.

GONE

I was far more upset than a normal person should be but dammit, picking out colors is one of my favorite things to do! I’ve literally had a terrible day at my day job and took a fifteen minute break to go look at paint colors just as a treat to myself!

I did look over their other paint chip options and brought them home…

AND HATED ALL OF THEM

I was absolutely convinced it was because I couldn’t look at Valspar’s options!

And I was totally right!

It turns out my local fleet supply store (fortunately for me) still carries Valspar and I found a lovely color that was exactly what I was looking for. I had Ace color match for me so I could still get their Royal brand interior paint in a semi gloss.

The color is Black Currant by Valspar

We painted out all the trim/ceilings with Ace’s brand Royal in white semi gloss and than moved on to Black Currant – it only took us a couple of hours all together. When we first put it on I did have a moment of, “OMG that is SO purple!”

But, once it dried, it really grew on me. Lodi is actually the one that loved it initially way more than I did. The difference in this room though is extraordinary. In comparison it used to feel like an unfinished construction zone.

We HAD to change out the bulbs for whiter light though! Between the reds in the bathroom paint color and those yellow bulbs it felt almost seedy. The white light of the new bulbs though I think did the trick!

Getting a bathroom plan together... When I started the renovation here the biggest conundrum I had was what to do about the main floor bathroom.

This tiny bathroom paint of mine has so many issues that I've just been ignoring it since I finished the renovation of this home and moved in 2015.

I generally do things “right” and try not to cut corners but one thing that’s been a glaring problem (that I’ve been ignoring for years) were a couple of holes in the sheet rock under the shower head.

Pretty ugly huh?

I ran all of the plumbing in the house and totally forgot to poke a hole through the wall where the shower head would screw in so… several months after sheet rocking I went to install my shower head and was like “DAMNIT!” I SO annoy myself!

So, I had to poke some holes to find it…

It was my own pure laziness that I never fixed it besides slapping some mud on there and it was also my own pure laziness that I decided to cheat!

I purchased a small ceiling medallion from Amazon to cover it up instead of getting out my sheet rock tools.

I cut the hole in the medallion (it was made of a solid foam-like material), I unscrewed the shower head, slid the medallion on, slid the shower head washer on, screwed the shower head back on and DONE.

A five minute solution that I think actually looks pretty spiffy!

ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS!

Dark paint colors have never been a fear of mine (obviously…) but even I was a bit hesitant hitting such a small space with such a moody color. Normally the popular choice would have been bright and light as possible but I think the dark made this room WAY more interesting!

Next I’m pretty excited to dress this little space up and show you guys the reveal!

Hi Tara, did you DIY the vanity? If so, is there a tutorial? Thanks!

I did DIY the vanity Susan but I’m sorry that was long ago and I didn’t take a single picture of the vanity while I worked on it. Sorry!

I do love your paint job and the color is great but thank you so much for the great idea you had to cover the mess around your shower head. We have one too and will be looking for a medallion as soon as I send this message.
