There’s a relief in getting to winter for me usually. Unlike most years I spent a lot of time working inside this summer. Usually though its wonderful to turn my attention from my property (and garage etc.) and turn my attention inward again. Winter is the perfect time for us northerner’s to tackle our inside work and think about all the updates we can make to our interior. Not to mention a little holiday coziness and decorating as well!

With the colder months upon us and the evening getting darker quicker, you want to be able to head back after a long day at work to as home that is cozy and complete. We have got some top ways you can spruce up your interior this winter.
Furnishings
Updating your furnishings such as cushions, throws, curtains and rugs can give your home a new lease of life. Cushions and throws are a great addition to any living room, especially in winter when you want to curl up on the sofa with some hot chocolate and a good film.
Candles
Adding some scented candles can make your home feel warm and wintery. Choosing smells like cinnamon, ginger, pine or citrus will fill your home with a Christmassy feeling. You can also opt for incense or wall sprays if candles aren’t your thing.
Changing Your Colour Scheme
Swapping the blues, pinks and yellows for deep oranges, burgundy and browns can transfer your summer home into a cozy winter home. You don’t have to go all out and paint the walls. Just a small change of color in the furnishings will do just the job.
Decorations
With Thanksgiving nearly here and Christmas hot on its tail, what better time to start decorating. Changing up your napkins and towels can be a subtle but effective way to bring out the festive season. Put out some ornaments and fairy lights and why not put up your Christmas tree a little early this year, we won’t tell if you don’t.
Brightening Up
In the winter, our rooms can feel dark and gloomy, we can suggest a few ways to get your home feeling bright again. If your walls are looking tired, try adding a lick of paint, this will enhance the color making your rooms appear brighter. Another way is to incorporate some Wall Mirror Decor on your walls, ideally opposite a window, so that it can bounce light around the room.
Clean
You have heard of spring cleaning, but there is no harm in a good Autumn clean to make your home looking fresh. Tidy away all the clutter and dust off the shelves.
Don’t Forget Outside
When you pull into your driveway after a long day at work, you want to leave the stress behind you, so making sure your outside looks tidy and inviting is a must. Spend a day tidying up the shrubbery and cleaning away the leaves. Insert a few solar lawn lights to guide you up your path to your front door.
Finishing Touches
So now all the little bits are done, you might want to think about those odd jobs you haven’t got around to yet. You will feel more relaxed knowing they are all done.
We hope we have helped guide you into getting your home ready for the winter months. To see the projects we got up to in October, check out October 2020 – Our Fall Photo Gallery.
