Creating a wedding keepsake bin. Over the past several months you guys know I’ve been working on purging our entire home and just nearly completed the task. One gift I gave myself (which I absolutely love) is the right for me to keep some things that have no use in my life whatsoever. Because keeping something just because we love it is absolutely a legitimate reason as long as we have the storage space! Which, Lodi and I finally really do now that we got our long term storage closet on our second floor cleared out.

Check out our Wedding Photo Gallery here!

It was amazingly sweet and freeing for me when I gave myself the permission to keep some things.

(For some reason before I always felt a lot of guilt keeping any kind of keepsakes… Note to self: not everything has to do a “job” in our lives, its ok to keep some things just because we love them!)

Of course, now that Lodi and I are married, my brain automatically turned to creating a keepsake bin for our wedding too!

I went to Walmart and purchased a seriously heavy duty bin with a solid top I can lock closed so I know no critter could get through.

I spared no expense.

Besides that I also ordered a pack of cedar blocks as I knew we could use them elsewhere in the home too.

While unpacking and over the weeks after our honeymoon I gathered up and laid out each and every keepsake I knew we would want safe and sound.

My dress of course but also my knee high shoes I wore that day along with my necklace. Seeing all I would be keeping for good Lodi also laid out his whole outfit too.

I asked him if he was sure he wanted to give all of it up as the majority of his outfit could TOTALLY be used for other occasions!

What he told me: “Maybe in a couple of years we can have another photo shoot on our anniversary and wear our wedding clothes again.”

Sweet man of mine!

Also in our keepsake bin went all the wonderful cards we received for the wedding and, after the reception now, any cards we receive then will be going in here too.

Our doggo Annie’s “outfit” went in there with her little “Dog of Honor” scarf and collar of flowers she wore that day.

(Funny tidbit: every time Annie shook her head plastic flowers would going flying off of that collar so she unintentionally also became our flower girl lol)

First I tossed several cedar blocks into the bottom of the keepsake bin before adding it all in and arranging our wedding clothes on top with our wedding album in the center.

Of course we’re not packing the album away for good – the extra storage space we have up stairs is easily accessible whenever we want to get it out to enjoy or show anyone.

I love that its in such a safe place otherwise though!

Check it out here on Amazon.

What a great idea! My caution would be the cedar blocks coming in contact with your dress/clothes. Cedar chests have a reputation of permanently staining fabrics. You might want to look for some archival bags or boxes to store your fabric items. Just sayin’……

That’s a good point Marybeth, we have a lot between the clothes and the cedar blocks but I don’t want to take any chances, Thanks!
