Well, it snowed. I’m not even kidding. It REALLY SNOWED – like blizzarded for an hour on Saturday. I know this is northern MN but still! Of course it didn’t stick but wow were we all crabby that day lol Welcome to Link Party #107 at Grandma’s House! This link party is all about homemade, homemaking, DIY, recycling, upcycling, before and afters (of rooms, furniture, whatever), build projects, vintage, any kind of creative, frugal, time saving, money saving or green advice, canning and old fashioned recipes. Going back to simpler times, simpler days where we used all that we had and never bought new until there was absolutely no choice.

Thank you so much for featuring our Sunflower Twinkie Cake. This cake always reminds me of my mother, and her birthday was last week. She loved flowers and could get almost any plant to grow, even in Southeastern Idaho where our Winters were long and our Summers were pretty dry. I made this cake for her 75th birthday and she was so excited (I think part of it was that her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved the cake).
One of my nieces actually told me that I needed to put this cake on my blog. Anyway we miss her and I love flowers, but I am not as good at growing them as she was. We do so appreciate you hosting each week and giving us the opportunity to share our recipes. I also love seeing what you are doing on your place. My mother’s philosophy was also to fix things, rather than throwing them away and getting new.
I can totally see my mother doing a lot of the things that you do on your place. I try to fix things up but I am not as good as my mother was at that either. I do appreciate that she instilled in me not to be wasteful. And I’m glad that there are people like you sharing this philosophy with the world!

Oh Amy thank you so much for sharing that memory with me! Your mom reminds me of my grandma, she could grow flowers like crazy and I just do my best lol Her flower beds left me with tons of perennials fortunately! And they all managed to survive my moving them around into my own flower beds as well including her glorious peonies which are my absolute favorite.
