New window treatments up here in the master bedroom! As most of you know I’ve been excitedly hacking away at our second floor for awhile now. It all started with a game plan that had us first painting out the whole room and then adding a door for the first time too. The door gave me a great place to hang our floor length mirror giving us even more floor space. So far, all of the changes have really brightened this whole room up and though I did love our old flower boxes in the windows it was time for new window treatments and a design change.

The old window fan was dingy and kind of silly as we don’t even use it as a “window” fan. The last couple of years we only ever used it for ambient noise. I used to open the windows in the summer time but with the amount of dust coming off our dirt road and the heat we experienced last summer I’m pretty sure we’re both over that idea.

Though I used to love waking up to all the windows open!

We’ll still use it for a fan somewhere else when we need one but I found this little fan sleep machine on Amazon that we love.

Our old window treatments consisted of over 20 year old curtains and window boxes for plants that I built several years ago.

I still loved the idea of having plants in the windows but I wanted something that wouldn’t block the view and light so totally anymore.

I’m also moving toward a more casual vibe up here so I went on the search for some light and breezy window treatments.

These are the curtains I ordered from Amazon and, OMG, I love how much they catch the light and brighten up the room! I decided to gather them in the center instead of trying to push them to the outside of the windows as we really don’t have much space to work with on this wall.

I also replaced the black curtain rod with a white one that had just the perfect crystal finials at the ends to match our hardware and knobs throughout the bedroom.

I replaced the hooks I had been using with larger hooks that were also white and also picked up two 1/2 inch by three foot long dowels at our local hardware store.

I cut the dowels down to the width of the window and rested them in the hooks.

This gave me the perfect spot to hang plants or whatever I might want!

I ordered these macramé hangers on Amazon and got to work putting it all together one bright, winter afternoon.

The plants have been with me for years in these two old “pots” I found here at Grandma’s house during the renovation.

I love using unlikely containers for plants… Yes, that is a spittoon lol 🙂 They’ve been in our master bath for a few years, I’m sure they’re very excited to actually get to see a little bit of sun light!

The change to our windows (and really this whole space so far) is really dramatic.

We still have the lovely green and growing things but on a much more toned down scale. The window fan is long gone and the darker curtains replaced with these lovely sheers.

The light coming in now is just amazing!

All in I feel our window design really grew up!

Planning a new bedroom design for our entire second floor master suite. I made two mistakes when I renovated this home and then moved in
