The yard work that’s been going on around here is just nuts. We had expected the guys to come tackle our lawn sometime in early to mid June. We got a call on Thursday May 9th that they were coming the following Monday *facepalm* Its not that I’m unhappy to get everything done ASAP its just that we really thought we were going to have some more time to prepare! But we managed to rent a skid steer that weekend and Lodi worked at it with all that he had.

As usual I am sorely lacking in photos and this time its even worse as my SD card just decided to get corrupted and lose the dozens (upwards of 100) photos I took when we rented the skid steer.

Yes, there may have been a few tears but mostly just me swearing at my computer…

Fortunately Lodi took some photos while they were working on the yard later but my gosh am I upset that I have no pictures of how hard he worked in the days before it.

Lodi had to use a strap to keep the little shed on top of the skid steer forks as the shed was about six times longer than the forks. (Though the skid steer we rented was plenty big enough to the take the weight.) With it all strapped in he carefully drug it backwards around the silo and back around where the barn used to be.

That shed was built well!

(Though that shouldn’t surprise me as my Grandpa built everything to out last all of us…)

It traveled up there without too much damage and then I swept it out and put the windows back in. (I figured they would have probably broken on the way otherwise…)

And I totally love our little shed!

Isn’t it cute up there?!

From there Lodi headed to our horse shed and began cleaning it out which ended up taking HOURS.

Eighty years of equipment, livestock etc. left a couple feet of all kinds of… stuff and things. He dug it back down to our regular soil before moving the new gravel in.

It was a VERY long day for Lodi.

He left for his job at midnight the night before, drove all night, got home twelve hours later just to get into the skid steer for several more hours.

I did what I could throughout to help guide and direct him but, frankly, with the shed moved there wasn’t a ton I could do for him otherwise.

But you all know there is never NOTHING to do around here!

I will say though things are moving very fast for our yard and the work is dwindling down there too now. The fact that we got to this point in early May is crazy to me.

The tree in the front yard gone now as well… yet another weird, empty spot.

The yard looks really strange with the little shed gone too but at least that’s an empty spot I appreciate. Its no longer in the way and I love it up where it is now.

Lodi moved the pile of leftover rock from up by the silo and spread it out around our garage for drainage. The rock was sitting on a useless cement slab that we wanted taken out so that was the first thing to go Monday morning.

They also took out a couple of trees that overgrew in a lilac bush right by our new septic system. (Roots are the number one enemy of septic systems.)

From there it was many, many, SO MANY, loads of black dirt and a crap ton of money thrown at our yard…

So, are we done yet?

Please?

Everything looks so bizarre, different and empty when I come home now.

I’m missing my horse and my barn and the front yard tree.

I know its going to be great and all of this was inevitable / had to be done…

I know life never works to give us our sweet time to prepare for things but dang it I am TIRED.

The whole “when it rains it pours” thing has gotten old.

Didn’t they do a fabulous job on the yard though?

They also added more gravel to extend our driveway right down to the shed and we absolutely love it. The weather perfectly cooperated as well, raining often enough (but not too much) and staying cool practically until our grass came in so didn’t have to constantly water our giant yard.

The silver lining of having this done so immediately though (despite my complaints) means our yard work schedule just cleared. I really can maybe just focus on building my garden and getting to enjoy the summer now… hopefully lol.
